ive been searching around on the forum and haven't found anything on this( could be because im a major n00b sometimes) but what method would you guys recommend? ive herd static cling works well, i dont really want to spray tint my tail lights...
its either a can of nightshades or the vinyl stuff. The vinyl stuff has the advantage of being easily removed but have heard storys of it bubbling after a few years or more. I assume that would come down to how well you apply it though as some have had no problems. Nightshades is easy and cheap it gives you the advantage of deciding how dark you wanna go. After a few years it will become faded and hazy. As for application methods everyone seems to have there own preference. Some sand it some dont, some clear coat some dont. some go heavy some go light coats. Me personally when i did my side indicators all i did was rub them down with prepsol and spray about 4-5 light coats and they came out dark, clean and glossy and have remained that way for over a year. as for removal if you dont clear coat so fast thinners and some elbow grease should remove it. if clear coated no sweat jst wet sand it back starting with 180 working your way up to 2000 and cut and polish and theyl be like new. hope that helps
That was a massive help thanks! My friend did some static cling tint film, and i do a lot of work with tint film so ill try that and if i fail ill try the night shade method, ill post some pics when i get around to doing it!
if u find my car thread in members rides there should be some pisc of my tail lights i tinted. i went darker than i wanted to, i used niteshades or w/e. all i did was clean em good, wet sand from 1200 working my way to 2000. then i sprayed em. i didnt clear coat mine and they're fine, theyre not super glossy but they look good.
if you go down the nightshade route, be cautious with over spray. use plenty of newspaper i ended up covering half my car with newspaper because it was kinda windy lol
thanks for all the input guys i tried the static cling tint method and i got pulled over i have a pic tho it was pretty simple to use, i may use the night shade spray method if i do it again, thanks
20% is pretty dark, isnt 35 darkest legal tint? and make sure u dont tint ur reverse lights i forgot to say
yeah its pretty dark and thats what he had a issue with, said if i was backing up he wouldn't know, so i removed it in front of him and he let me off with a warning so i was good, and yeah 35% is the darkest for car windows, but ive got, 10% in the back and 20% on the front windows and a 5% foot long tint strip in the front(also illegal, legal length is 4inches) however i haven't gotten any issues from the cops on that...
