Best bang for the buck is a set of 2000+ Celica 16" OEM rims. Lots of them around and they look great on the 4th gens.
Can't recall whose car this is but check out those rims....

I got 'em on my 89GTS and 88 ST165. They suit the cars much better than the stock "pie pan" alloys.

i think that you should go with the 17" koning reasons for wheels and the 215/40.17 nexen N3000s for tires

i was gonna go with some 16" but 17" in aust. cost around the same price anyways. but my engines giving me grief so rims will have to wait....

i love the 17"s, but i have heard a few bad things about them scrubbing, but then on the other hand iv heard of ppl finding ways to lessen the scrubbing and experimenting with different tyre sixes and widths?? im sure theres a way around it, apart from rolling the guards and what-not...

in australia, in NSW our insurance company wont cover us if our rim is more than 2" bigger than stocko's(making the limit 16" for me), so that leaves me with the decision of looks or security... when i get around to it ill go with 16s prob. do the 17s put the speedo out? that could be another problem...

the parts are new gaskets, new water pump, timing belt kit (including all new cams and belts) all the seals are getting done... new bearings in a few places... i cant remember what else, but theres a few other things. i love new stuff for the celi :)

im in the same boat as you, learning as i go and learning how to help some ppl out when i can :p

Heres what I'm currently running on my GTS, but not sure if their still availible. They are Borbet' wheels size 15"x7", but were also availible in 16" and 17" sizes for just a little more than the $90 each I paid. Oh and by the way, they only weigh like 14 lbs. each.

    racerb :D

enkie rs5's in 16x7 on mine weight in at 11lbs on the rim. the tire weights more than the rim.

how much of a difference to lightweight rims make? at some point I wanna get new rims, I was thinking 16's but they aren't as easy to find as 17's round here

speedo wont be affected as long as your overall diameter is teh same.

205/60r14 is almost identical to 215/40zr17 easy to calculate if u need too

    (RimSize*25.4)+2*(sectionwidth*aspectratio[decimalform])

    so

    (14*25.4)+2*(206*.6) = 601.6

    and the 17s = 603.8

i just made a excel sheet to do it automatically if u want it haha
