here are the things wrong with my car: the speedo is 20km too fast, would that be the ECU, coz the engine was changed by the previous owner there is NO TORQUE in 1st, when i put it in 1st and floor it, it takes about 6-8sec to get to 5000rpm the gears are grinding, i have to use force when putting it into 1st and the clutch is all the way down and when going from 3th to 2nd it's hard too, and reverse is hard to find it sounds like its in but its not then i have to put it in neutral then try again and use more force
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no speedo: tire size will affect it, or there's a little adjuster inside when you take apart the cluster, after taking out the gauge face, to the left of the mileage counter, there's a little lever you can adjust.
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no Oh snap! I was about to ask that! lol thanks! Like what eNtraxgt88 said, the overall size of your wheels can alter the accuracy of the speedometer and acceleration. Check this website out. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no does it sound like its misssing? it might need a serious tune up or the clutch could be slipping
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no im going with sean on this.....clutch time. -yes overall tire/wheel size will effect torque. but sounds like maybe something else.
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no The overall diameter of the tire will make a slight difference in the speedometer but not 20km. I'm guessing you mean 20km fast when your going 100kph and say 10km fast when your going 50kph it should be proportional to the speed your going assuming you don't change gears. The ECU will not effect the speed on the speedometer the speedometer is strictly a mechanical device. The speedometer does however generate a speed pulse signal that it sends to the ECU but that shouldn't effect anything. Somethings definetely wrong with your engine, I'd be guessing timing but it could be anything 1 dead spark plug or who knows what else Torque really doesn't have anything to do with the tranny except to deliver the power from the engine to the wheels. If your engine had torque and the clutch was slipping then you'd get to 5000rpm in a couple of seconds you just wouldn't go anywhere since the clutch can't deliver the power to the wheels So no torque = engine problem Try bleeding your clutch line to the slave cylinder and tighten up all the connections you may have a small leak or some air has got in the line, also check your tranny fluid level 20+ year old cars and old axle seals so who knows how much tranny fluid is left.
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no Speedo - all Toyota's over-read by 7%. Yours sounds like the tyres are too low. What size tyres you running? No you can't adjust it and it could also be the spring has been weakened, try another speedo and compare Torque - Cam or distributor timing out? Filters blocked? Plug gaps out? (1.1mm) Box - Bleed clutch, replace gear oil with 80w/90
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no I don't know about other markets, but the canadian ones i've seen, both the GT (190km/h) and GT-S (240km/h) ones are the same speedo (637 revs = 1km). there's a lever where it adjusts. i played around with it and now i've put a 240km/h gauge face on a originally 190km/h gauge and the speed is right, verified by gps.
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no Are you referring to this little lever?: My speedo overreads more than 10%, I guess because of the different final gear ratio, can you tell me which way do I have to adjust it and with what amount?
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no yes sir! that arm goes behind the spring, and if you see to the right of the spring, it will move that arm to adjust the tension of the spring. overread = move the arm down, the arm on the right will move up causing the spring to tighten up a little DISCLAIMER: I had to play around with this for a good hour or so. DO MICROADJUSTMENTS and verify with a GPS. That adjusting arm is VERY sensitive. Also try to NOT TOUCH the spring itself. One little nick on it will also change the speed reading.
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no Wow that was quick I edited my previous post, can you tell me which way and what amount?
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no tyre size is 205/45/R17 i have a new high-flow filter probably done 1000km how do i bleed the clutch??? my tyre size is 205/45/R17 i got a new high-flow filter it's probably done 2000km how do i bleed the clutch
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no Your tyre size is a bit bigger than OEM, so that should make the gauge underread a bit, not overread. Problem is elsewhere.
Re: theres some things wrong with my car, dont know if is no If you know how to bleed your brakes then bleeding the clutch is pretty much the same
