Looks like a nice clean car. Not really a fan of all the rice, IMO it would have been far better stock. Good to have another Adelaide member though.
Ok I don't want to offend you or anything, there's nothing worse than someone bagging on all your hard work and each of us has their own style so this isn't a personal attack just an expression of opinion which is what you've posted here for. I won't get too detailed as I have no idea what work you've done yourself, what was pre-installed before your purchase and what future plans you have for it. Now I know lights are fun to look at but do you really need all of them, a few here and there in moderation are cool coz they illuminate hidden little areas but on the hatch? I just don't see the need, un-necessary power consumption so I agree with Dan1 on the Rice factor, but to each his own, lord knows Dan and I disagree on my rims and Decals. And is that a Cannon? Have you thought about a sports exhaust, just simple parts first like extractors and sports muffler aren't as expensive as some people think, good extractors like genie and pacemaker (my genies only cost $350 installed) and a good sports muffler and tip ($180 for muffler and tip installed) deliver great performance as well as a true exhaust note from your mega clean 3S-GE powerhouse (kudos on the bay). Other than that keep going with what you’re doing, it's clear that you have the passion to work on your car and learn from it but save a little cash for the mods that count, those that look as good as they perform and deliver the best bang for buck. What plans have you got for it? Feel free to check out and comment my ride (just no personal attacks please) http://www.st162.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3278
thanks all suggestions are welcome i dont take any as a personal attack. the thing is im such a noob when it comes to moding car for power n what not so any help is good cheers jus contact me if u hav any ideads
Love to see it lowered, with the rims polished up and the front lip on! King lows/superlow springs will cost you 250, you can install them with the help of a friend and some spring compressors. 20-30 should get you some polish and sandpaper, to get the wheels looking nice. Would take a good few hours. See st165's excellent posts on polishing. With the lip, go to U pull it at either Lonsdale or Elizabeth, and start looking. Will cost you almost nothing, all screws on under the front bumper and quarters. Id probably remove the 2.0 twincam 16 decals, they arent the toyota ones anyway, somebody has just made them up probably. Would look alot cleaner without. With the Southern cross sticker, I have no problem with that! Would look alot better on one side of the back window though! You could also make yourself a parcel shelf cheap, some mdf cut to size and covered in carpet. Your Dad, or mates could help you with this if you dont feel to confident. You can put speakers in them, and it covers up your sub etc. Lastly, I hate your seatcovers! I have a thing against most of them though lol, and its just my opinion. See the car in my sig? Thats yours would look with the rims cleaned up, front lip installed and side stickers removed. Not sure about whether you cut the bonnet for that scoop, but It'd look alot better without. Doing just simple mods, you can add to the original style and class of the car. Doing random ricey things, makes it look like ass IMO. If you want power,Id start with new plugs/leads/cap/rotor/air/fuel filter. After that, a good exhaust system with some headers and a nice muffler will help too. The number one thing to do to get performance would be a manual conversion! This could be done cheap from U pull it as well. You would need: ECU i believe, unless you could fool it to think the cars in neutral all the time, Pedal box/clutch pedal assembly, and master cylinder/lines, manual box, can also use the camry box for better ratios, ask alman162 or xr-pilot about that one, and a shifter assembly! Keep us updated man!
Dan's definately on the ball with the first set of mods, though the manual switch would seem a bit far, they aren't extremely difficult in terms of fabrication, i mean these shells were designed the same so the same holes and mounting places for clutch cables , pedals and the manual shifter are available already, getting the box out and putting in the new manual one would be the most difficult part with having to have the motor pulled but other than that it's a pretty straight forward affair, you'd want the motor out to better set up the clucth and gear linkage anyway, but if you get hold of a haynes maual or a seasoned mechanic it could be done, using the haynes manual you'd basically just be following the maintenace parts of the manual transmission and filling in the parts where necssary, personally i'd stay away from doing this for the simple fact that it's time consuming and you'll need help. But if you do decide to get one, i got a 89'ECU lying around, will always throw code 21 at you due to the oxy sensors being different on the 89' cars but it's not like you'll notice. i'll definately second the plugs, leads, cap and rotor button idea, they make a difference trust me, just swaped them all on mine and it certainly shows better response and more accuracy. but i stress, you need headers, look at the form of the original cast manifold you got there and compare it to the pic of my bay with my extractors you can see they allow the gasses to pass much more freely, toyota just needed to make large numbers of these cast manifolds so it wasn't a high priority for them to make them perform well. I hear headers off the 5th or 6th Gens work well, much better designed. So first two mods, extractors and your ignition components. don't worry about the coil, there's no upgraded coil for our cars, the factory one is brilliant. There's a topic in the all Motor Power section on header options.
