Ok, since Ive decided to go the jdm swap time. What all am I going to need from the donor car? Ive found a ST185 front clip that should be complete. But I want to make sure I get everything off of the chassis before I leave it.

This is what Im assuming I need thats not on the motor. Correct me if Im wrong.
    ECU(duh)
    Harness
    ignitor
    MAF
    throttle cable
    shift linkage
    motor mounts

    Anything else of importantace?

    let us revive your list
the mounts can adopted to the 1st gen 3s which bolt right up
    AFM not MAF
    don't need a throttle cable
don't need shift linkage your trans should be fine
fuel resistor pack? (i don't know if they are different)

I always call that damn thing a maf for some reason.

Anyways..with the swap should my cruise still work or should I just ditch it?

why ditch the cruise control? if it works why not have it on there? or is there some hidden power gain to ditching it?

no just that much less BS in the way. tune ups are a PITA as is then you add all the rest of the crap on top of the motor and just make it that much harder.

I did my swap with a JDM GEN2 3sgte in my 88 GTS. If you are getting a front clip complete then this is what I would do:

Take out the wiring harness. I find a easy place to splice the harness and extend the whole thing 34". Make sure you do one wire at a time so nothing gets crossed. After your done with this I would clean up the harness and rewrap it with new electrical tape.

I would then take the trans off the engine and sell that seperate. Replace as many seals as you can WHILE the engine is out (real main seal, crank seal, timing belt, hose from hell, ....)

You have to get the 3sfe trans (88 GT) because your GTS trans the starter don't fix because of the turbo. You can use your axels and motor mounts from the GTS. Everything will bolt up.

You have to use the flywheel and pressure plate from the Gen2 clip and then get a new racing clutch disc to a 88 GTS. This is what I did and works fine.

Here is the sensor part! Use the JDM Gen2 Ecu, the AFM, the ignitor, the resistor packs, and the engine fusebox from the clip. I bought mine as engine only. I had to find the rest of the parts. I had an 93 Gen2 JDM Mr2 Ecu and a ST185 ignitor. The damn car wouldn't rev past 3000rpms! Took me weeks to figure it out. The JDM resistor packs have a different plug than the USDM version.

    Good luck!

    Thanks,

    Chris Snyder

roger all of that. I can believe the sensor mess. I bought my car off of kid who blew his motor and then did a jdm swap and couldnt make it work. He could never get it to start. He went through 4 ecus and and about 2 grand at the dealer and then finally gave up. I got it and spent a month with it. As it turned out he had the JDM afm installed and it was screwing with the ecu and it in turn was turning off spark. I replaced it with a USDM afm and also had to change out the TPS and viola! the car started right up. But doomed to me they kept loading it up with ether and I think that is was contributed to my blow out piston.(adding a turbo helped blow the rings out) I appricate your help...more to come.

Looks like Im going to pickup my engine this saturday. Ive been looking at clutches and flywheels. I want to put analuminium flywheel on(Fidanza) Anyone have any feedback on those? I used their cam gears and they seem to be made pretty well.
Now, as far a the clutch goes I will need to get parts seperately which alot of places dont sell just the discs(at least that Ive found) Id like to go with something a little better than stock. Any recommendations?
