ok guys, just a quick question.

the story: went to get my alignment and tracking done today, and when i pulled in the guy at the tyre centre went to put the steering holder in place and felt a little play in the wheel (i didnt notice because i havent been driving any other car but mine in over a year) but it turns out that my drivers side tie rod needs to be replaced. he also mentioned to tighten my steering rack. i know what this means, but i dont know how to do it.

question: can anybody explain the steps i need to go to tighten the rack? he said it has something to do with the 22mm bolt at the bottom. also can somebody tell me what i need for the tie rod.

    any help would be great

    Cheers

usually youd fix the tie rod first(didnt you just replace the ends?) must be inner yeah? then make the assesment on the rack. fixing an inner tie rod would most likley take any excessive play out. remember there should be some play in the wheel, the bgb should specify. is your steering power? if so i would think twice before adujusting anything on the rack. my suggestion would be to fix whatever is wrong and then get a second opinion. i know my ps rack has a very "loose" feel to it. aka its very easy to turn the wheel. seems to me all earlier ps cars are the same. i belive as cars became more modern the ps isnt as aggresive because people want better feel for the road. so youll have cars with power-assisted steering(the "power" is only on at stop and low speeds) some calssic american cars and even like cadillacs, you cant even feel the road, you could be parked and turn the wheel with one finger. and those cars are heavy. then again maybe hes right. food for thought i guess.
