brakes are a bolt up. can use existing discs or the 165 ones that are thicker.
as for pads i think they are different but not 100%

If you check my thread you'll see I use 165 brakes on my 162.
No mods needed, pads are different

    Comparing the ST162/165/182/202 front brakes

Disk comparison - unless you do track days I don't think you'll notice the difference in brake fade
    [IMG]

Pads - ST202 has the bigger, longer lasting pad

Stock - with ST182 pads fitted
    [IMG]

    ST202 (same as early ST185??)
You need the whole hub or skim the caliper mounts down 4mm
Pedal was spongy - recommend fitting ST185/202 brake master cylinder
Brakes were equal to the ST165 setup
    [IMG]

    ST165
With the ST185 master cyl fitted one needs to be carefull in the wet or while panic braking.
On the track they feel good but lack stopping power compared to the ST205 brakes
    [IMG]

    ST205
Needs warming up in the mornings, but the ones to have
    [IMG]

    Supra - another possible candidate?

    Altezza - possible?

    M/C - Camry V6 (bottle doesn't fit RHD ST16x), Celica ST185, stock compared

i saw drilled rotors on a new 162 in a yard close to me, would you trust yard rotors? forgot to check what calipers were on it

    Well, that depends
If they look chewed up - no
If the car was in a smash and they look smooth - yes

Even if they don't look to good but are drilled/slotted there' always a chance they can be skimmed

thanks stig, so is it best to use the st165 rotors or are the st162 rotors fine?

Use the 165's if you can, if you can't I see no reason the 162's won't work.
The 165's are thicker and have better cooling, so on the street it won't make a difference.
Remember the 165 is a lardass compared to the 162, what it makes in power it loses and more in power/weight ratio.

Na, they are different offset and you need the caliper & hub as well

$400 for calipers only? New disks are ?? ouch - I'd rather waste more money and get Brembo, AP etc

I dunno, less than 100 clams (hi Spidey :p) a caliper isn't too bad...

As Stig said, there's nothing wrong with standard 162 rotors for street use, especially when their new with new pads.
