I've seen 165s with 162 rims and vice versa, I read somewhere it's +/- 9 in offset that you can change wheels, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

    162 & 165 both have the same offset 39+
They are ok to swap; I've done it.

It's also depending on your brakes. My rims from my t16 convertible 2.0GT from germany didn't fit the ST165, brake disk was to big

Stock USDM or CDM won't hav any issues

  6. I had issues fitting post face lift non abs equipped ST162 rims on a ABS equipped ST165. The rears mounted fine but on the front the caliper would hit the inside of the rim and would not spin freely. But that was just me, never tried fitting the pre face lift ST162 rims to the ST165.
I think it all really depends on wether or not the ST165 is ABS equipped...non ABS versions probablly dont have any fitment issues as far as using ST162 rims are concerned but the ABS eqipped ST165 probablly do to the fact that the rotor and caliper are offset further out hence the reason why ST165 rims have less offset.

^Dan, that's odd b/c I've swapped my non-ABS '89GTS rims onto my ABS-equipped 165 and vice-versa and didn't have any problems at all. Both rims are stamped with 39mm offset.

I will try my non-ABS 86GTS rims on my 165 and see what happens. They are also 39mm offset.
