Hello all i was wondering if anyone had any experence with spring coil clamps to l Im looking for a temp way to lower and firm the suspention on my celica before i can afford to drop money on either coilovers or shocks and lowering springs. and clamps seem like a good option. I just wonder the intrewebs say they are safe but id like someone to give me a second take on the safety of them :)

personally i wouldnt. The whole concept just doesnt sit well with me especially after seeing the pic.
There also isnt that much clearance between the spring and the shock for them to fit. Whouldnt be surprised if they didnt fit especially in the rear and if they did i could picture them slapping on the shock.
They would destroy whatever springs ar in the car effect would be 10fold for progressive rated springs.
If your that desperate to lower it personally i think chopped springs (another thing i dont recomend) would be a safer option provided you didnt go nuts with it.
You could always just buy the springs and install them with fucked shox and save for shox as depending wat you want springs arent very expensive. Plus that way when you wack in shox the springs will allready be settled

    thats my 2cents anyway

yeah I don't think that's a SAFE viable alternative ohnoes
Eibach pro springs aren't that expensive... $206 +tx etc for front and rear.
Check w/ Redrocket, maybe he sells for a lower price?

1)Good chance of actually snapping the spring, they must be bolted all the way down
    or will come loose
2)Not height adjustable at all and probably will cause the spring to jump around as well
(same problem as cut springs and extreemly dangerous when the spring jumps out mid corner!)
3)Will be noisy as hell once the spring closes on it under compression

    Rule of thumb
If a spring is loose in the cups on an assembled strut - DO NOT USE IT
It can be remedied by using a "helper" spring or by shortening the damper rod or raising the lower cup on the strut

you'd be ok if you cut your springs, i know a couple of people that have done it. ur ride will be sloppy though, but if you just want the look of being low then you shouldnt mind much, also keep in mind ur shocks will go bad quick. also, your running 17's arent you? your not gonna be able to lower very much i dont think.

Cutting springs is a VERY bad idea - you must cut out a complete loop or the cups won't sit right.
Cut out a complete loop and the spring is then too short....

GTS - Dunno how you can say your friends cars handle like crap and then encourage others to do it -
    all in the same sentence?

i wasnt encouraging him to cut his springs, im just saying his car isnt going to flip over or be wrecked if he did it. some people just care about how the car looks, and would sacrifice handling and safety to make they're car look good.
*and i know its a very bad idea, i dont support cutting your stock springs or recommend it..

if you do cut them and you bust your shocks just refill the springs with tennis balls! just thought id add since were on the subject of bodging jobs together!
