Hey guys, So when working on my alternator i found that there was a draw on my battery when the car was turned off. What ever is drawing the power it must be slow because the car sat for 4 days and the battery still showed a full charge so I started to pull fuses from my engine bay 1 at a time to try and locate the problem. I removed every fuse but the alternator one (it was stuck) and there was still a power draw ugh so I then disconnected the alternator itself. and still there was a power draw @_@ so I guess this weekend I’ll start pulling fuses from under the dash and see if I can find it there so here are my questions. 1) Besides the alternator does anything else use the alternator fuse? 2) I only know of 2 fuse boxes inside the car (under the dash passenger and drivers sides. am i missing any?
Surprising it's kept up after all of those fuses. I can suggest one practical thing though, which should have been taken off with the fuses: alarm system? My GT-S has one, and 'm sure there is a slight draw from it. Not sure if you have one or not though. You didn't miss a fuse and have the door open, right? ;-) Good luck. --Teran
I think it could be your ECU, they don't have a battery inside, many radios will also draw a small current when switched off, or check if there are any extra wires to the + terminal (alarm, amp, spots etc)
the only Extras i have hooked up are an amp, and the Starter fix. At first I thought it was the amp, as I unhooked everything but that. and it did show a residual charge at first, then it dissipated an never came back (I was checking over a period an hour) When I was checking the fuses i only had the stock Positive wire hooked up to the battery. the draw seemed to fluctuate this was my first time using a multimeter but it was showing anywhere from -7.00 to -12.00 when i had it set to "DCV" if its my ECU should i be worried? how would i check it?
well an ecu only takes a minute current so i wouldnt think thats it... is your radio memory working ok?? and what type of radio have you got? i know i saw a car with a crappy cheap radio and id did more bad than good!!
I got a Sony Xpload deck, was middle of the line, and its a 2005 model (not sure the model number) the radio memory works fine.
The radio/stereo is always drawing power for its memory, as is your car's clock. Unless it's draining your battery significantly, ie not enough juice left to start, I wouldn't be too concerned. Do you have any other devices hooked up that require memory?
