I don't know how big of a problem this is, but... Sometimes, gray smoke comes out from behind the engine after it's been driven fairly hard. I know that oil leaks behind my engine (about 1 qt. every 2000 miles or so). My theory is that I have an exhaust leak on the manifold or on one of the seals and that the hot exhaust is burning oil off the back of the engine/exhaust manifold. Does that make sense? If that is the problem, is it a big deal?
Valve cover gasket is leaking, This would be a great time to reseal the engine with gaskets- Gasket kits are only 15-35 bucks- Labor would be free if you do it- If not Labor from a mechanic would be around 150 bucks. And yes that makes senses.
Unless the GTE is on a engine stand lolol I was checking that out yesterday- I was thinking I would have to take the I/M off to change the valve cover gaskets !!!
Not sure if the valve cover gasket is the area of trouble-- it looks like the oil leaks around the head gasket.
Well if thats the case- You have bigger issues- Hvae you checked the Dizzy (rye) seal, cause they leak, and gravity tends to move the oil toward the firewall....
I have the crappy 2-se engine, which has the distributor on the front while the engine is tilted toward the rear. So if gravity is carrying anything anywhere, it would go toward the rear of the engine where the exhaust manifold is.
bassaackwards it right... They are seriously defunct engines... I mean, of all engines, I wouldn't want one... I Have a 2s fe, and I hate it, but it's much better than that backwards engine... Toyota really re-thought the engines in later models... lol
You mean you have a 3SFE, right? 2SE was only in 86 ST and GT's. I had one in my first Celica, it was a weird little powerplant, but got good mileage and never let me down. Seriously underpowered though, and ugly as sin.
Yeah, that's what I meant... Hit the 2 by accident... lol Or maybe I was thinking about the above engine... Not sure. Maybe I am just losing my marbles... lol
