This will be a shock to some of you who've known me for a long time on here. My beloved Celica, a original unmolested car was involved in a head on collision with a car driving in the wrong lane. Luckily I'm ok. I have made a deal with the vehicle owner for him to pay me privately, but it's no consolation that I have lost my ultimate pride and joy that I've owned for 18 years. I am not going to fix it, it's too far gone for me.

All I can do is cry Steve... As I told you on FB it's horrible to see but I'm happy you are ok.

Only thing left to do is a partout so you might get some money from it.

Have spoken to Steve about this, not much to say except the car is pretty wrecked and theres more damage than the outside pics suggest. He had his children in the car too so the big plus is that after all those years of obsessive care, she did her job:did Steve proud over the years ,attracted admirers from 162 owners and non-owners alike, and in the end kept him and his kids safe when she needed to.As much as its an absolutely horrible thing to happen, the positives are that even though we live in a world of crumple zones, airbags and god knows what else,a damn near 30 year old car looked after him like he did for her. There's something in that, for me.
The car has gone to a fellow enthusiast in the UK who owns a 162,and it'll help keep that car going hopefully for years yet.So it's still playing its part.

Fine words Derren, thanks. Yes what you said is very true, a 30 year old car that protected me and my family from that horrible head on collision. It's good that our speeds were quite low. Here it is being taken away by Martin.

Just saw this post now and I feel sick to my stomach. So sorry Steve but glad that you and family are safe. In the end, that's what counts. I drive ultra-defensively but there's always risk out there. Re: wrong side on road - was the drive a confused foreigner or visitor?

Cheers Rick, you've known me since I joined and I appreciate your words......the feeling of seeing it like that is undescribable, but sick to the stomach is very accurate. The driver just wasn't concentrating, think he made have had the music on loud or something, that's what a witness said.

Sorry to hear Steve, this car was one of the few I looked at and admired the possibility of being able to bring one back to this condition or at least find one in that condition. I'm glad you're alright and the car did it's job! Unfortunately it does look too far gone, especially how the side sill bowed out like that, compressed frame perhaps. There's got to be another car you've got your eye on as a nice weekend driver, and would love to hear about it!

Thanks, there is no replacement, it's impossible to find one like mine that had been looked after so much and I continued that for 20 years. It is sad when I talk about it and most of you whom I've never even met in real life have been so kind.

I do also have a 1985 Celica Supra which is coming up to 5 years ownership. It's incredible how we build up a relationship with our cars, just like having a pet.
