When I bought my All Trac it was 8 hours away and the Toyota dealership that made it ready for the 8 hour drive were concerned that it ws burning oil and told me that they thought all the gaps in the rings of 1 or more cylinders had lined up and oil was getting past. I have never heard of that before and the previous owner had said that the shop he took it to said his turbo was the cause of his burning oil which I am more likely to believe but I had toyota put another engine in it and brought the old one back in the hatch for parts. When I looked at the turbo I think it was pretty obvious that some bearings are shot. In the following picture I can put my finger on the little gear in the center of the impeller and move it a good 1/8" side to side. Is it worth rebuilding ? Is there a rebuild kit ? Is there other things I should check on it ?
There this kit on ebay for 100 dollar and the guy will balance your parts in the turbo. otherwise if you do not mind spending a few you can convert it into a ct20b, hybrid, or garret gt35 <---- Not too sure about this one but I heard it been done, check garret if your interested. A GT35 are supposely one of the best turbo for a 4 banger cause it spool fast and can produce a good hp and psi limit. Again do not quote me, is just what I heard talking to dudes who had turbo their cars on the street.
thats just the same as my old turbo, crack in the same place hence me going to hybrid. Why do they all crack there??
