Hi am having issues with a s53 in a st162 it keeps poping out of 5th gear when driving have tryed to make it pop out while stationary but it seems ok under clutch loading not poping out at all but when on motorway i have to keep it in 5th with my hand
h i Hi I checked all cable & linkages on my mates car but all seem fine what part of trans is worn out do you think? the syncros seem good as well & selector seems fine I have bgb's on the engines but nothing on the s series 5sd gearboxes
There is a spacer on 5th gear, if the bearing is worn or the spacer is too small - it causes the gear to wobble and wears the dog rings & splines to the point it's no longer able to hold itself in gear. You could fix it yourself without removing the box by just replacing the whole 5th gear and fitting a bigger spacer - done it a few times, further work requires many special tools, presses etc and not recommended.
