hey all, im brand-spankin-new to this site. i just recently bought a 86 sx celica off my cuz. its in good mech and body shape... except for my right pop-up light :x hehehe

when i turn the lights fully on, both come up, but the right one goes back down about an inch or less... its nothing MAJOR but its kinda annoying while driving at night (and for other drivers who im driving behind)

    any help would be awesome.

i hope to post some pics up very soon.

    thanks!

pop the hood...im guessing its your pass headlight...to the right is the motor..pop the cap off and twist the knob!

lemme get this straight it sounds like your lights both come all the way up then one is dropping? I dunno much about the lights but if there is some kinda locking thinger that holds the light up when the motor turns off then maybe its failing a bit?

pull the little cap of the motor and turn it by hand if it still doesn't move than you need to replace that motor or look around for anything it might be getting stuck on

i really thinkim in need of a new light motor hey... i have tried turning that lil knob both ways and all that. its spring loaded hey? cause sometimes if flicks back into its normal position when i turn it...

the problem light, when it goes up, goes a little higher than the other but then drops down to rest a little lower than the other light...

and the, when they are both down, when the lights are turned fully off, the problem one sitts a little higher out of the bonnet. its not flush..

how do i post pics to show you guys how it sits?

i havent ever owned a car to be on these forums to have to post pics - hehehe

thanks for everyones help so far!

it's not spring loaded....so it' shouldn't bounce back to place...it's just the motor but you can turn it and adjust it manually...if it's springing back you might need to get a new one

i know what he means when it springs back and thats normal..It sounds to me that its just outta adjustment....when you open the headlight up, next to the motor is a litte bar with threads on it..Soak those threads with lube and get a couple 10mm wrenchs iirc...Then you can adjust that linkage to level both the headlights.

it sounds like the motor track is missing a couple teeth. new motor time. i have 2 of them FYI

I'm thinkin its a loose connection at the motor...causing it to sporadically work. or a couple missing teeh

looks like an adjustment is needed. If that doesn't work new motor time.

ok ok ok... i tried fiddling with the manual adjustment shaft thing. not the little cap but the actual sharft with a few nuts on it.
its missing 2 of the locking nuts that hold the adjustment in place i think. i tried adjusting it anyways but somethings happened now and my light pops up but wont go back down without having to manually turn in back down! hahaha i only spent like 2 mins playing with it and ill have a proper go 2moz i think...

ill upload pics and maybe a small vid and tell everyone how it goes..

thanks for your help everyone one!

also, this is off the whole 'lights' topic, but will removing the silencer bulb thing at the end of the air box and replacing it with some 3" pipe running to the front air dam increase the throttle response a little bit? maybe adding swapping the original air filter with a performance flat bed one in the actual air box? will this do anything other than change the sound??

OK... i finally got around to making a 40 second vid of my lights goin up and down and all that!

maybe it will help with locating the actual problem at hand?

    ok, here it is then!

hope this is of use to someone who can help me!

ohsnap. The one is like a couple of teeth ahead. Weird its like the stop mechanism is adjusted wrong or something. I dunno man but the vid sure helps

yeah Your little rod is way outta adjustment..measure the other side and compare the lengths of the rods.

i did that last time and got em spot on to the millimetre but then when i turned the lights back off again it didnt move.. that was real weird, then i put it back to where it was in the first place and it went back down again, but once again it was outta sync and too high and low and all that...

what a bastard of a headlight! hahah
