My old speakers were buzzing, so I thought I'd get some new ones. Crutchfield listed a bunch of 4" speakers that fit our cars, so I got 2 pair of Infinity 4012i (on ebay, natch). Guess what? They don't fit. They're too big to fit in the front and too small in the back. Crap!! Anyone have suggestions of speakers that actually fit and sound good? I really want co-ax speakers, since my hearing isn't so good anymore and I need some help with the high notes. I plan on adding a sub soon, so the bass response isn't as important. Tom
they will sound great fitting is a small issue though. what i did on mine when i had a stereo front speakers were 4" but i removed the speaker cabinets and just mounted with a little cutting on the plastic right behind the grill rear speakers were 5 1/4" and i had to cut the rear speaker box to fit them.
stock for a gt-s liftback should be 3.5" in the front boxes and regular 5" speakers in the back. yes i know that you cant buy 5" seakers anymore but toyota sure liked them. for the rear speakers you just have to bore out teh hole a bit theres little tabs making the hole smaller, get those off and depending on teh speakers may need to do a bit more. but ya 5"1/4s are the way to go.
Yeah I was told I needed 4" for the front...so I bought them...magnet wouldnt even go into that funky little enclosure...so I tried the back...and yay! $12 Pioneers from CT that sound great. As far as putting in a sub, it's pretty damn easy in these cars, at least it was for me.
ill just say, make a car audio section in the forum and let me mod it... that was last year everything designed, built and installed by me
Infinity Refference 3.5" in front and 4" in the rear, no crossovers. Yes there is a bit of a gap with the rear speakers in the box but I didnt notice any loos of sound so I dont care. If I was anal about it I would just put a bead of silicon around it to close it up. The rest of my system comprises of: Pioneer DEH-P4600MP Modififed Rockford Fosgate Punch 150HD mono block amp Single 800W DVC 12" Marathon hooked in series Not a competion system by any means but I have been complemented on it by several audiophiles(sp?) for how hard the sub hits. Its good enough to shake everything in my house when my car is in the drive way and have my neighbours call the cops, lol. I just wanted something that would sound good for when I go to the drive in. Question for Youds, which direction do you point your subs in the hatch?
ha i got that and more!! my turn. you wall is quite impressive as well. highest i ever hit was 151.9db in 2002. 2 subs 1 amp no wall SS class
Cool, I think I'll take your suggestion, the 4" sound pretty good, I'm going to make a rubber gasket to seal the extra space. I'll pick up a set of 3.5" soon, then slap in a small sub and I'll be rocking. Anyone interested in a pair of brand new, unopened Infinity 4012i 4" speakers????? Tom
Now why are you selling them? Just use them...oh wait you bought two pairs im guessing? Yes the Refference series do sound amazing, now get the matching 3" for the front. BTW did you ever end up selling that DEH-P4800MP? Get a new deck face on ebay there on there all the time. You'll have almost the same system as me when your done, lol.
Yea, I got 2 pair, so one pair is in the back and one is up for sale. I just grabbed a pair of Infinity 3.5" 3012cf for the front - they should match the 4012's in the back. I still have the deck, guess I outa do something with it some day. I picked up a new deck from the gal I bought the car from (she works at Best Buy), I got a JVC KD-G720, plays MP3, has USB port, amp and sub outs, etc. Sounds pretty sweet. I'll look into getting a new face plate for the Pioneer. Tom
i hate you mafix. was that on a term lab or the older mic? what stuff were you running im guessing you built all your stuff as well? ;p
Tom, Are you still asking $50 bux for it, cause I think I might just grab it off of you as a gift for a friend. Does the face plate look like this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/PIONEER-DEH-P4800MP ... dZViewItem I used to have the very first JVC Kameleon deck w/3 preamp outputs that they came out with years ago, was still the best deck I ever had. -Danny
That's the one. I'll still do $50 and will even include my climate control panel for you to rebuild. I ain't gonna use it, might as well go to a good cause. PM me if you're interested and we'll work out the details. Tom
I'm currently running a Clarion DXZ655MP deck ($350), stock fronts($0), Pioneer 4" rears($15), Rockford Fosgate 300W 2 channel amp($125), and a Rockford Fosgate 300W 10" sub($100 w/box). Nothing fancy but it gets the job done. I currently have my sub right behind the seats, facing sideways, thats given my the best sound in my Coupe thus far. Anyone have a better place for it?
by coupe u mean no liftback, i thought u were a hatcher. if u got a trunk, face it towards the rear and fold ur seats down...if they do
The guy at Toyota (where I bought it) had it listed as coupe. I had it facing the rear for a bit but it wasn't doing too well, though that was with my old sub (10" Sony) so I'll try it out with the new one and see what happens. Yeah my seats fold down, probably why it REALLY sucked when I had it firing into the seat. *edit:am I the only non-hatch guy here?
