I need some help from you ninja's I got a new headunit installed today because I never had one. the issue is the radio fuse the people who installed the radio had to put a fuse in engine bay because it was missing well because it was day they did not notice that when ever fuse is in my parking light/running lights whatever stay on no matter what so I now have to everytime I park have to undo negative cable from battery its a PITA so recap radio fuse = parkinglights; which = dead battery and me looking stupid. any ideas? I have alot of weird issues like this on the car and have recently found alarm system under my dash that does not work. dont know if they could be related or not.
they said they would have to charge me extra i said bs i took it to you guys assuming everything would be good to go troubleshoot and what not. guy said owner will call me in morning so f them. i dont want them fukin it up anyway. so thats where i am at know if im going to pay someone it wont be them. so thats why im on here first what fuse exactly in kick panel i cant find any reference. ps. i did know about problem but figured they would be able to do their job.
talk with the owner and then tell him you'd like it fixed and that you want to be there watching as well.
http://www.st162.net/forum/showthread.php?4589-Body-Electrical you're donated aren't you? the BGB page is quite the reference...for a lot of questions.
tried pulling a couple fuse and no difference even tail fuse did not shut lights off only radio fuse in engine bay shuts them off but radio wont work so are parking lights somehow wired through radio or somthing? its like chasing a ghost.
wow so they are closed on saturday glad the guy mentioned that when he said owner will call me. screw that place
What you should be looking for is 2 wires for power to the stereo. 1st wire should be gray and it is the main power to your deck. It is switched on/off with the ignition. 2nd wire should be blue with a yellow stripe, it is allways on and is used to maintain memory/clock in your radio. These 2 wires ahould be found near your speaker wires. heres the schematic if you have no power to the gray wire then check fuse 6 If that doesn't help then post your schematic for your deck and I'll tell you how to hook it up
thanks st165-2765 I am now and the point where i took out radio fuse to turn off lights... but no radio......... I thought...I turned on just my parkinglights and my radio turns on! along with my clock which is off otherwise also. It also forgets all settings everytime I turn lights off. I think the blue and yellow memory wire has somthing to do with it what do you think?
okay maybe some pictures would help. where is this radio fuse in the engine bay ? .....picture did they run a new wire into the interior ? I also need a picture of the wiring behind the stereo Your taillights should have absolutely nothing to do with your radio except to send it power to iluminate the radios display. This is a green wire and the reason for that is so you can dim the stereo ilumination. Your clock should be on your taillight circuit.
sorry only picture i could get right now i have fuse out so i can control radio with lights. when radio fuse is in parking lights on no matter what. will get radio wire pic in morning.
Ah now that picture explains alot. An 88-89 does not have a radio fuse in the engine bay so I was thinking they punched a hole in the firewall and ran a wire and fuse to the engine bay So heres the 86-87 diagram What make and model of stereo are you trying to install ?
Okay I got the diagram for your stereo, in orange I added the toyota wire color to connect to so what you need to check is the following the black wire from the stereo is connected to a brown toyota wire or connected to the car body the red wire from the stereo is connected to a gray toyota wire the yellow wire from the stereo is connected to a blue with yellow stripe toyota wire the blue wire from the stereo is not connected to a toyota wire and should be taped to avoid acidental grounding don't worry about the speaker wires for now, we need to figure out your power problem first So let me know if the blue, red, yellow stereo wires are connected properly. They may have connected both the red and yellow wires from the stereo to the blue with yellow stripe toyota wire and not used the gray toyota wire at all
with out looking i can tell you gray an black wires are not hooked up and blue and yellow wire along with a green toyota wire run in to the yellow wire with the 5 amp fuse
what toyota wire does the red stereo wire connect to. Heres what it should look like get me pictures of the wiring
sorry for picture quality my kindle fire takes shit pictures but its all i got. red and gray are connected not sure if you can see in pic but blue and yellow toyota wire and green toyota wire run it to yellow radio wire with 5amp fuse.
That green toyota wire should not be there so you need to find out what it is connected to. I would just cut it and see what does not work anymore. If it is something important that you need I would reattach it to the grey toyota wire which turns on and off with the key.
If the fuse was missing then the blue and yellow toyota wire was never getting power so the green wire was also never getting power so I would cut it and tape/cap the ends of any exposed wires
