kay heres the deal. I just went and bought an 87 GTS. I just put a new motor in it with my buddies Rob and Jeff. After we did that and we got everything done with the car, we ran into a prob with the running lights. We started to figure out what the problem was. Rob looked under the dash and saw that the harness for the light wasn't plugged in. Now that was over with. I started to drive the car and everything was perfect. Untill just 2 days ago when my running light stopped working again. This time i dont no what the heck is going on. The thing that is puzzling me is that, I both of my back side markers are working, it just the main running lights that dont work and also my cluster doesn't light up either. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Please help me out.
when you say running lights do you mean marker lights/blinkers right beside the headlights? or the ones lower down between the grill and the wheel?
Check that relay again. Thats what you didn't have before. We pluged in a relay for the parking lights in the fuse box. Check to see if it is blown. Oh by the way nice to see you on the forum.
so your rear side markers work and your taillights don't work? what about the marker lights on the front? check the tail fuse
yea my back side markers work, but my tail lights dont. Yea the front side markers work. I checked the tail fuse and it was fine.
the dimmer switch is in series with the marker lights though....not the taillights. I'm suspecting a bad ground at the lights as well
actually check the ground on the white bulb holder. they wiggle loose. then check the ground wire under the rear latch.
i have try'd everything andd i still can't get my taillights to work. and i can't get my instrument cluster to light up and i cant figure out why not. I have replaced the bulbs and i have also replaced the dimmer switch and they still dont work. It stopped working when my taillights went out. please help me out
Try hooking 12v's up to the taillights by themselves....start there....see if your lights work for sure and it's not shorting out or anything.... If that doesn't work, it's possible a wire is corroded along the way to the taillights, and is shorting out just your taillights, and not your running lights....
Ok Guys here is a little more background. After doing the swap to his car. He had no running light. Which meant. No Front Corner lights. -----But has turn signals No front sidemarkers No Guage lights No Rear side markers No Rear tail lights-------------But has brakes. Turned out he didn't have this huge relay in the fuse box. We put one in and he has everything. Now he went home and a couple weeks later this is his situation No Front Corner lights-------------But has turn signals Has Front side markers No Guage lights Has rear side markers No Rear tails-------------------But has brakes He has the side markers which he didn't have before. Now He has replaces that one with the one in jeffs car. It did nothing. He replace the rear tail lights in all. He did the 88 Conversion I feel so bad for him. I sold him the car. Be baught an engine for it I put it in. It runs like a beast but he doesn't have running lights.
dude that's messed up...the wiring must be good if you had all the lights at one point.....I suspect the taillight control relay...or the light control switch. what about your license lights?
my license plate light work. The only lights that i am having a problem getting to work are my tail light and my cluster lights.
well the taillights and the gauge lights are two different circuits completely. I would try changing the relay in the fusebox again (this is the one in the drivers kickpanel right?) And check if your dimmer switch is unplugged...that will cause your gauge lights to not work
just hook up the lights to your plate lights....as for your dash...i duno I have a complete electrical diagram I can scan if you're really stuck....but it wont be for a week or two at least
just the cluster lights? if it was all your interior lights I would say you toasted the big, bad fuse my buddy blew in his 240 while rewiring and didn't notice. I would check the main ones right off the battery just to be sure.
