so who still has a working one on their car? i've been working to get mine back to working condition, i have one taken apart, and going to take the one in my car apart soon. a few questions, anyone have a BGB page on this? where does the rubber spout point towards? and who wants to sell a working one? well i've taken both apart, i have one computer that's water damaged, both motors work, but i don't know how to install the plastic bit that controls the up down motion to that motor.
I've torn mine apart...yeah it's crazy how it works. I'm going to a yard tomorrow morning to fumble through and see if I can get stuff I need.
any pictures? i'm trying to reassemble mine but i'm missing some bits i think. i can get it to pull down, but not go up. the plastic thing that goes up and down doesn't stay on the drum. so pics would be appreciated
I just bought one from a junkyard. It goes up a few inches then stops, I think it just needs some lube. Lube makes the world go round.
Mine still works!!! PM Shaun4vert - am sure he knows abt the power attenna! Though hes real busy now having taken on a GT4 project recently ...
When I bought my Lightning the arial was in the up position........... I pulled it out and apart and what a drama that was and it was rusted beyond repair so I converted it to manual.......... I need a new one as well............ HELLOOOOOOOOOO Matty from Sydney.............. ATM, this site won't let me use the enter button to separate comments......... What's up or what am I missing ?
The one I bought from the yard sorta works. Sometimes it'll go all the way up, other times only halfway or a few inches. I've been lubing it every now & then, that seems to help a lot.
'Sorta works' sorta sucks and is not good enough for me............. Can these be bought NEW and yes I know it will be expensive but it's not like it happens every day........... Are other models compatible ?
Gotcha............. Keep cleaning and let us know how you go but I doubt you'll be successful as sometimes age defines us all and I will walk down the road tomorrow to my local Toyota dealer and ask questions and get back to you.
i've opened it up and it seems that it isn't because there isn't any lube. i reused old 25 year old lube accumulated from 3 separate power antenna assemblies and the root cause is the metal drum that collects the antenna nylon when it goes down/up. water is allowed through the unit by design so this metal drum usually has holes/rusted through. solution would be to sandblast it, spot weld new sections of metal, carefully paint it with rust paint to prevent rusting again.
haven't used it since 1989 When I replaced the stereo, I was told that the power antenna was incompatible. The antenna would go up when the stereo was powered on, but would not retract unless I switched the car off and on again. I disconnected it and left it in the down position. Never used it again because I always listened to CDs.In Sydney I was able to pick up radio stations with the antenna down.Reading this thread makes me realise my antenna is probably rusted solid now
I'm restoring a Celica and have now moved onto the power antenna, i have stumbled across this!! http://www.antennamastsrus.com/Toyota/Celica/Toyota Celica 1986-1989 Antenna Parts.htm
