hey just getting the car back on the road so its time to get problem brainstorming again . basically at almost full wheel lock I get a popping sound from the front end and a bit of slipping. would this be new rack time and if so whats going to happen if i dont replace it. or could it be strictly allignment related. its kind of annoying and would like to fix it before im back on the road
hum, im slightly confused as to yhe problem can u type it again in idiot form? I got a steering rack knock when I turn from left to right when moving very slowly. have had it for a while now, hopefully a new manual rack one day
Is it clunking as you turn the wheel, or as you hold the wheel still while cornering? If the wheel feels "notchy" as you turn it back and forth while the car is stopped, it is probably the steering "knuckle". I fixed mine with a handful of grease at the u-joint. If there is clicking during cornering it might be an axle. Remanufactured axles can sometimes exhibit this too. Does it happen both directions, right turn and left turn? If you drive in a circle will it continue to clunk (i.e: clunk, clunk, clunk)?
its not an axle. its normally just one pop at low speed on full lock to the left (pop from the right). does it more on left turns. sometimes it pops when not moving too im quite sure
hold on do i have the same thng , when i pull out of the car port at the full left turn ,(yes it is sharp) i get a pop sound lol , i can video it if you guys want
Tie rods maybe? My blue 86 made a constant popping sound in low speed turns until I replaced one of the tie rods.
My guess is the universal on your steering arm knuckle. (The rod that goes from your steering wheel into the rack)
