I need to buy a new oil pump for the motor and sifting through Stigs thread and coming across this.

    http://www.st162.net/forum/showthre...ore-jdm-oddities&p=39819&viewfull=1#post39819

Which is talking about the different oil pumps.

So I did some digging online and making my guy at the dealer dig through various motors and getting printouts.:study

Here is some interesting things I came across.

Twosrus lists a Gen2 3SGTE oil pump here.

    http://twosrus.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_31&products_id=669

    Which is part number 15100-88381

Interestingly enough the dealer lists this pump for the 93 All-Trac with this part number
    15100-88382. So whats the difference?

Then I decided to have them pull the sheet for a 93 Camry.
Which has a part number of 15100-74040

The Celica assembly comes without the pulley and the Camry one comes with the pulley. The look almost identical except for one bolt location.

Based on some discussions, the Camry pulley is smaller and would give me a higher flow. So should I order the Celica Pump and get a Camry pulley?

Simple answer is - different castings/pulleys etc
Some will not fit the gen1 block as they have a lump on the back which hits the block and cracks the pump when you tighten the bolts.
Be sure to check your pump goes all the way in before tightening bolts

All these pumps should work in gen2- blocks, and I don't see the point in anyone fitting a gen1 GE/FE pump.

I'd start with the bigger (stock) pulley and see what the pressure is like, if you want to raise it you can always swap for the smaller pulley which does rob more engine power

The best deal I've found - by far! - http://www.eportuning.com/Oil-Pump/Toyota/Camry/tc352579/

I'm using the 97 pump with the sensor cutout which gives me the option of later fitting a crank angle sensor ignition

Solong as your pressure rises quickly at starting and stays around the middle of the gauge, all's well.
Anything over 1/2 way is power wasted and won't provide any extra protection

    Who actually makes these?

Im probably going to order a smaller pulley just to have on hand. I have Gen 2 block so I should be good no matter what.

No idea, even the oem stuff is usually the same as a/m but in a different box

I just pull pulleys from other motors and keep them

Looks like the one I'm using
If you can get another one I'll pay you for it plus shipping etc. (They don't do worldwide)
I don't need the pulley so you could keep it

So I got my $50 oil pump today. I have to say, Im not real excited about it. Made in Taiwan. The casting is going to need some extra grinding to get some edges smoothed out and the pump itself doesnt line up real well on the main body. So I dont know if Im going to use it yet. But I did see some interesting comparisons. I took a couple pictures of the pumps I have.

Upper left is the Gen2 3SGTE Pump, Upper right is the Gen1 3SGE pump I had and the bottom pump is the 5SFE pump I just got.

    So heres some observations:
The Gen1 GE pump definitely has a small pump housing.
The Gen2 GTE has a larger pump housing like the 5S Camry pump.
The only difference really is that the 5S Camry pump has a smaller pulley on it than the Gen2 GTE pump.
The 5S pump has provisions for a crank sensor.
