Hey guys, so I'm pretty sure I've killed my oil pump. Symptoms have been:
-Low oil pressure when warmed up
-Cold starts always have about 1 second of no oil to the bearings (sounds like piston slap for a second)
-after 4-5k rpm the oil pressure always go DOWN just a little

Then one morning just after the oil pressure rose as normal, i hear a clack, oil pressure goes down, continuous clatter, turned off the car. Smoke from the timing area. Overall, must have been only a few seconds with no oil pressure in the motor.

Hopefully my bearings are still okay...
So far i'll be tearing down the oil pan and timing area, and i'll change the water pump as well. While i'm in the bottom end, i'll also inspect the rod bearings.

    Any help/advice would be appreciated.

If you going as far on changing oil pump might as well do the whole lot Marc ring's, bearing etc.Could even be a faulty oil pressure switch or blocked.

oil is 700km's old, filter is oem toyota, oil is castrol syntec 5w30. been that way since 15000km's ago. always changed on schedule.
there's barely any leaks, if anything i suspect that they're from my front main seal.

is the camry pump a direct fit? does the st162 belt work? because rockauto doesn't stock the st205 belt

looking at the prices for the camry pump + the difficulty of finding the 205 belt, i'll stick with the 1st gen ge stuff. $177 shipped to me is pretty unbeatable. using beck/arnley + aisin stuff.

i meant the oilpump+waterpump+timingbelt+idler+tensioner+cam/crank seals all combined is $177 shipped. $144 total + $33 shipping. the car isn't raced or anything, the stock pump should be okay. timing belt + stock oil pump was only $55 so i can't justify the camry upgrade. thanks though. when my motor goes through a complete overhaul, it'll see a camry oil pump. any options using the stock timing belt?

for the timing belt, do i HAVE to take off the mount? or is it possible without the removal of it

Thanks for the info, had heard the stock GE pump wasn't up to the task when installed in a race engine. I will be turning in the 5,000 to 6,500 rpm range most of the time, so a better pump set up will be really good.

according to my symptoms, anyone else think something else is causing the clatter + no oil pressure?

drained the oil, no signs of metal shavings or anything. pity the oil, it was only 700km / 2 weeks old.

Have you tried changing the oil pressure switch? As mentioned above that's cheap easy and quick

Then if you switch the sensor , and you still have clatter and low pressure then change your pump, but does the the clatter increase with the revs , or only when cold, like valve clatter?

usually when i start my engine in the morning after sitting overnight, i get some clatter that goes away as soon as the oil pressure goes to the middle. this usually only lasts 1 second, but when my oil pressure went the other day, the clatter was continuous, i didn't dare rev it, but i just shut it off.

regarding the gauge, the gauge was working fine 30 seconds prior to it losing pressure. it started up normally at first, oil pressure was halfway just before all hell broke loose.

    just bought the waterpump/timing belt/oil pump/tensioner/idler. $164 shipped on rockauto.com. hell of a deal

i would just open it up and change only the oil pump, and put the t belt back on and start it. then if it clatters still, then you know something is wrong. better then throwing on all those new parts for no reason.
but if it good, take the t belt back off and slap them on.
