Oil Leak On Passenger Side

I have an oil leak on the passenger side of my car. I've had this leak since I've got it and have already replaced the oil pump and oil pump seal. Now, it looks to be maybe coming out from behind of one of the tentioner pulleys (the one without the spring). Now, I'm just wondering if it's possible to leak from there.

Secondly, if it cant leak from there then where else could it be leaking from.
I know it's not from the valve cover, not the cam seals, and it's not coming from the oil pan.

It also looks like it could be coming from the oil pump seal that I already changed. I'm thinking that I didn't torque the bolts to the proper specs even though I fallowed the information in my manual.

Anyway, if any one has any idea feel free to shoot them my way. I'm probably going to just start it with the timing cover off and watch to see where it's leaking from.

    Thanks

well did you clean all the oil off when you were changing the pump etc? cause then it'd be prtty easy to see where it's coming from now...

I did clean up the pump when I changed it how-ever, i've been running my car for about a month now so the oil is everywhere. I cleaned it up as good as possible and sarted it up about an 3 hour ago without the timing covers on and really have yet to see any noticable oil leak. It might the crank seal, but i'm not sure. Anyway, ill take a look in the morning to see if there any new oil on anything I cleaned. For now, i'm going to bed. 8)

did you rev it? that'd help the leak do its thing while being watched ;)

I will try that later for sure, but I don’t want to run my car long without the alternator on. I know my battery will last long because it's new, but I don’t want to kill it.

Anyway, I took another look at it this morning and didn't see any new oil on the ground or even on at the components on the side of the engine. I took a look at the valve cover and saw that there was a bit of fluid near the corner of the valve cover. I think it might be coming from there and then running down the between the head and the cover for the cams. Then, I think it hits the tentioner pulley and it shoots everywhere.

Unfortunately, I had just tightened the valve cover just before I saw the oil and now I can't really test to see it was the problem spot.

For what ever its worth...Im on number 5 4th gen. Ive had to replace the crank seal on every one of them. From what it looks like, check the cam seals. They will leak down behind everything. Unfortunately they are a pita to get to.

It's a pain trying to even see the rear cam seals so I’m not sure exactly how I’m going to see if it's leaking from there. I think I have the crankshaft seal along with the cam seals so I might just go ahead and change them however, I would prefer not to take the timing and everything off again. It would have been allot nicer if I new of these problems before I put the engine in. It’s a lot easier to work on when it’s out of the car.

    Well see what tomorrow brings.

    Thanks guys.

Do I need any special tools to remove the cam seals? Also, what’s the easier way to do it? Do I have to remove the cover that is right behind the cam gear along side the head? I used to have my old engine on the side of the house so I could just take it a part so see how it comes off, but I got rid of it a few weeks ago. So I don’t want to do anything wrong on my good engine.

Do you think it could be the valve cover gasket by any chance?

Personally I think it could be because when I first got the new engine only the oil pump leaked. I have picture of all the slug build up from that area leaking. Anyway, I might just change the cam seals since I already have the timing covers off and everything.

    I’ll check back here later.
