I had my car on the hoist at work today and found my crossmember bushings are toast and missing a rear bolt, the upper mount may be stripped i'll look again tomorrow. Does anyone have a bolt to measure up? My local toyota can not get the bolt or bushings anymore, and the upper mount without bolts would be $70 + 4 weeks from japan. I've looked for new bushings online - Whiteline, Nolathane, Super pro, Toyhead auto, 1st toyota parts, Toyota locally... to no avail. I know speed source does aluminium but i'd like poly engine mounts so may be too solid? I'd prefer poly or stock bushings. Any thoughts? Cheers Andrew
I would advise against solid mounts for the crossmember. Joey on C-Tech installed the aluminum bushings along with poly motor mounts. His radiator core support cracked. They're out there, just need to find them. One question...how do you replace the mount where it screws into? Wouldn't you need to cut out the chassis a bit?
i believe joey was an exception. i've never damaged mine. also remember that there are differences in the structure of the chassis. ours are a bit more than the 5th gen. there is no suh thing as too solid! your teeth will argue this point
I think ill go for alu and see how it goes, i have a spare crossmember justincase. As for the bolt, do the bushings come with bolts? This is the one
I'm not sure about the mounting plate, it might need to be cut off and the new one tacked onto the body. I'll get the one out of the project car and a bolt too, but will still need replacements as I want both cars running
Thanks i'm waiting to hear back from speedsource. i looked at the part numbers crossmember and shifter cable bushings should fit 165 and 162 shifter base bushes i think 165 and 162 are different, i'm using an s53 and later will have a s54, Are the shifter bushes the same all round?
no issues here, ive got poly motor and alu cross member. lots of vibration but its all up to what you can stand i guess. i dont mind. i will say i installed them all at the same time and it was a pita. i think i may not have had the roll right on the engine mounts. i also found it was easier to use the stock bolts than the supplied ones. they have the little tapered bit on the end to help you get them started w/o stripping. -cant remeber where i got the alum shifter bushes from but iirc it was speed source, there not a tight fit and can feel the slop in them...its slightly annoying. -im with mafix on the "you can never be to solid" bit.
