New/rebuild Transmission?

I have a 1988 Celica GTS with a 5 speed and a 3SGE from an 86/87 GTS Celica. Second's syncro is destroyed, need to keep my hand on the shifter to keep it in. 4th grinds going in when driving longer than 30 minutes. Where would I get the supplies to rebuild my transmission and about how much would this be?

Could I swap in a new transmission, if so from what cars? The thought of having a 6 speed sounds nice but anything that is in better condition would be great. Any recommendations? If I did get a new transmission, would I get new clutches and half-shafts for my car or for the car the transmission came from?

honestly, don't bother rebuilding it. get a 202 (6th gen) box.

What car would I use to get a clutch and half shafts, do you know? Would I run into any issues with the starter locations? Are the mounting positions the same or would brackets need to be fabricated?

I would allways use a new clutch, for the amount of work to change 1 why take a chance with a junkyard
clutch that may allready have seen better days

any 4th, 5th, 6th gen celica half shafts will work. Newer generations may have slight improvements

    I don't think so

Use the mounting brackets from your 4th gen tranny they should bolt up to your new tranny

I mean, would I look up a clutch kit for my car or the donor?

Does the donor Celica have to have an "S" block engine in it in order to have the donor transmission bolt up and align correctly with my engine?

The clutch should match the flywheel

GE flywheel won't work, you'd need one from a GT4, Camry or RAV
