New parts on the way...

Well, after getting the car running and finally inspected (long story of dealing with the running light issue), I have finally been able to drive the car on an almost daily basis. After reading some suggestions on the forums here and some tips from a friend, I finally purchased some suspension parts since the struts are completely blown. Here's what I have on order:

--> KYB GR-2s for the rear
--> KYB AGX adjustables for the front
--> Eibach pro-line springs for all four corners.

That's all I'm going to do for now and I can't wait to see the improved handling just from having working shocks. Future plans for suspension include a full bushing set for the car, front strut bar, and possibly Whiteline sway bars front and rear. The sway bars will be a treat if I decide I can afford them later. I'm trying to save up for a 3s-gte swap that I will hopefully do this summer. I'll update in a week or two when I find the time to go and install the parts.

why are you putting gr2's in the rear?

well... i didn't see KYB AGX for the rear fitment. All I saw was GR2s and they were on clearance. I've seen several other identical setups on the forum here and the owners said good things of the setup. Esp for the price.

I have a friend who just put the AGX line on his 240sx. He loves them, fantastic adjustment, especially the knob on the rears. The front has a screwdriver, and he said it's super simple to adjust. :) GL with them, they sound like great shocks, and struts!

you have to do the rear strut mod and then use a set of fronts. it's not that hard and makes a huge difference.

I guess that I forgot about the possibility of using that mod. However, price comparison of $200 for 2 AGX compared to the $62 for the 2 GR2s is part of the reason I'm going with the rear GR2s for now. It is tempting to go ahead and do the AGX rears though. I'm trying to convince myself to go ahead and do a 3s-gte swap and will need every penny I have to do that. Let alone the added cost that I still have to pay for alignment of the new suspension that I am putting on.

I think I'll stick with the GR2s for now and upgrade them to AGX after the swap using the old strut tubes that I pull of the car this time around. This will also save me a little downtime and let me mod the strut tubes at my leisure.

that's a good idea and no need to strap yourself for cash.

Yeah, that will def be on my list of things to do once I get other thing squared away. If anything, I might consider purchasing a car bushing kit before the rear AGXs in the near future. Well see how everything rides once I get these parts in. I can't wait to see how it can handle. Right now there is no handling to speak of and it's starting to get on my nerves. I might consider putting some wheels and tires on in the next few weeks too since it would help the ride considerably and make the car look tons better. We'll see what I can find used around my area. Thanks for the tips!

How much does the rear agx mod cost ?

Man... the car drives so much better with a new suspension on it. Of course, the old stuff was shot to pieces, so any repair would've been nice. I had a chance to put all the parts on this past weekend. I also added four new strut mounts to the list of parts and had a new driver's side axle installed. The CV boot had been torn up and the joint was clicking when I got the car, so while I was getting it aligned I let them put a new axle on.

As far as I know, there isn't any major cost to doing the rear strut mod. The biggest cost would've been the price of the AGX struts I would have gone with. Overall it probably would've cost me another $150 - $200 to do it. However, since I'm not sure if I'll be doing my summer co-op session with Cisco like I had been planning to (which means a much smaller paycheck this summer) I figured I should hold off on the extra cost.

Right now I am trying to source some engine vibration and rattle that sounds like it is coming from near the main crank pulley. I'm going to start a new thread about it shortly. All help is appreciated! Thanks for the help thus far.
