Hi guys. New to the forums, Celicas, and cars in general so I have a few questions about body repair. I picked up a used 89 Celica GT Liftback on craigslist a few days ago for $900. Overall decent shape with 180k miles, new alternator, and some other good stuff. The downside was the body. It has some minor damage that I'd like to repair if at all myself if possible. Heres some photos. That is the driver side door. Owner told me it was water damage. Looks like its the gloss (plastic?) peeling off and those black lines are dirt trapped between the paint and the plastic. Looks like the paint underneath it is intact though. This is on the back of the car. Looks like it hit a pole backing up or something similiar. Looks crushed in but not too bad. Any advice on fixing these myself? Thanks! Oh heres a picture of the car in question.
re paint the door......... use a ball pin hammer and knock out as much of the rear dent from the inside as you can, bondo or body fill then paint.
For the door , you need to sand off the clear cote and re-coat it (probably best to do the whole car) The rear dent is in the wing? it's fiberglass so all you can do is fiberglass repair it If you aren't sure on these things I'd suggest saving some money and take it to a spraypainter. In the meantime look for rust underneath & inside the car and try to eliminate it
Welcome from the UK. As Stig suggested, it might be better to have a proffesonal look at that crack and see what their opinion is. It does look quite scary, but hard to tell from the pic.
It looks like a crack at 1st but it's flaking clear cote with a lot of dirt underneath There's vids on Youtube how to fix it but I lost the links
Thanks for the responses guys. I managed to clean up most of the clear coat so its now barely noticeable. I'll look into repainting the car but when I took it to the mechanic he said anything short of a complete engine rebuild its probably not worth it. We will see if I can do some of the work myself. I'll post an update when I work on the dents in the car.
mate when clear coat starts pealing like that you will have to sand it down to the bottom until get to paint the work and then prime it again so you are not left with any edges and then repaint the complete panel if the car as lots of those clear marks i would suggest a full respray
