Im trying to replace my shock absorbers and i realized the break pump line is attatched to the whole shock. is their a way of removing the line without leaking any fluid?
There's a retaining clip you knock out then the hose is detached from the shock. Clean some of the crap/grease/dirt out and you'll see it.
You can carefully cut a slot just large enough for the rubber line to slip out of the holder. As the previous responder said, there is a U-Clip and C-Clip holding the hose to the strut, remove these and slide the line to one side, then protecting the line with a screw driver or other hard object cut a section out of the holder. A Dremel Tool or hacksaw will work just fine to cut this slot and then you can remove the strut without loosing a single drop of brake fluid. racerb :eng101
I ended up losing some fluid anyways because their really was no other way around it. Now that it was removed, i realized the break lines had cracks in them and were already leaking so i have to replace all four. The worst part about all of this, is that i ordered kyb shocks online and they sent me the wrong ones. they were a lot taller and the plate that holds the springs in was too small. Now my celica has to sit on the jack stands a lot longer. I am really irritated right now.
lol. now i feel dumb. i just realized i got the back and front struts mixed up. this is what i get for replacing everything on my own. lol
thank you guys for the help anyways. I don't have anything to cut metal so I had no choice but to leak fluid which really doesnt matter cuz i got to replace everything anyways. =)
Since your replacing lines already, get yourself a set of Russell Speed Bleeders for your brake system, they are available through Summit Racing and make brake bleeding a one man job. Here is the link......http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rus-639570/applications/ racerb
Or an air powered brake bleeder. http://www.harborfreight.com/brake-fluid-bleeder-92924.html After I did the suspension & stainless steel brake lines i used this to bleed the brakes. Worked great. 20 minutes later all brakes were bled and firm.
I bought the new bleeder screws, and bought the bleeder vacuum. Does it matter which screw i bleed from first to last?
on the pre facelift models you have to cut the mount for the brake line if you do not want to bleed the brakes. IIRC the post facelift have the split
Need to cut post-lift also. Very easy though, and if you don't need to open the brake lines- definitely quicker and easier.
Im actually having a hard time removing the left side rear bolt for the bottom of the shock strut. Any suggestions on how to loosen that sucker? I'm getting pretty desperate here. I tried using my weight but still cant get it loose.
Pour some brake fluid on it and let it sit for a little while. That should get it loose. If not, heat the bolt with a torch.
I use Liquid Wrench nut buster, works quite well and is cheaper than PB Blaster. After letting it soak in for an hour or so I use a 24" breaker bar on the nut itself (not the bolt). If that want break it loose, I slide a floor jack handle over the breaker bar for just a little more leverage. When re-assembling use a little anti-seaze on the bolt threads, it will make it come apart much easier later. racerb
Ok i got the bolt off finally. =) I have a question though, i bought a break line where it doesn't fit the hole in the shock strut mount perfectly so i cant lock it in place with the c-clip. My question is, is it dangerous or bad if its loose like that? or will it be fine? it locks perfectly on the other end of the hose.
