If I cant get it right by timing with the dizzy, then il have to take off the cover and check. Im quite sure it is a timing issue now. The belt will be changed eventually

ST165, if the cams are not aligned, do i simply somehow loosen the belt, and turn the cams by hand until they are? Want to do this soon

You can probably just remove timing belt cover # 1 and losen the tensioner pointed to by the red arrow. You'll probably have to remove the wheel to ge enough slack in the belt to spin a cam gear one tooth.

I doubt you'll have to do unless the timing belt that was replaced was installed wrong.

You can also count the number of ribs on the belt between the two timing gear marks. I get 18.

If a gear has jumped a tooth it is most probably the exhaust cam gear as it is only in contact with the belt for 90 degrees, whereas the intake cam gear is in contact with the belt for 180 degrees.

If a gear has jumped a tooth you should definetly replace the belt ASAP (like before you start the engine again).

Ive gotta make a point to check mine in the spring, I hope when whoever swaped the engine they changed it for good measure. Because the 3sge is a non interference engine its not gonna self destruct if the belt goes (destroy valves and whatnot)

Yea Meph, thats why im not fussed bout changing the belt in a rush if it looks ok. IL do it soon, but have better things to do. If its damaged or worn, I will change it though.

Il check it out today hopefully, looks likea bit of crap has to come out before the cover tho :(
