When you start the car, the hot exhaust condenses on the interior of the cold exhaust system. This is normal for a few minutes until the exhaust system warms up. If the water smells and taste sweet, and you are continually adding coolant, you may have a blown head gasket. If this is the case, do not continue to drive the vehicle as serious damage will be done to the engine. textbook anwser from a site not sure if it helps.
Hmm....I do have to add coolant periodially, but there's a visable leak near the waterpump...so I'm hoping it's just the thermostat gasket... :S
