Same car, bigger engine :p I believe mine goes 0-60 in about 8,9s.

    Hmm...
OK, but I was wondering in another step of performance, like:
How the car behaves, the noise of the engine, consumption, the "feeling", you know.... XD

    Oooh, I see!

Well, my Celica is one happy revver. All the power sits at 6000RPM and it will go to about 7500RPM. I can cruise along at 50-60mph and just drop a gear down, where the powers at! Its really a fun little car, my Celica. The noise is so nice! At lower gears and at high RPMs it'll make this really intense growl (lacking better words) and it really sounds like the rally car it was. Even tho, frankly, its a totally different engine than those in the RC ;) At lower RPMs, low-mid range, it won't make a noise at all. Its just chilling. Perfect, I would say ;) There are downsides to an 1.6 engine tho. It doesn't sound too powerful (it ain't either) at idle, and revving the engine while parked just makes this kinda whimpy whine. So you'll only experience its great sound at speed.

Handling is spot on! Mine has gotten a bit soft at the rear, as the shocks are getting old, but its still very nice and there is little to no body-roll even at sharper bends.

If it just had a little more power and was fitted with some low coilovers, it would be perfect. My exhaust is stock too.. The sound would just go beyond magnificent if I put a sports exhaust on it. I rarely get to use my stereo as is.. :shock

PS: Upside to 1.6 engine is looooooow fuel consumption.

Now that's the performance I was talking about. =)

The noise is also something that I love in my Celica. It's like the very soul of the car is speaking to you, if the car didn't had that sound, it wouldn't be so alive. It feels so weird when I, for instance, have to drive for some reason my mother's Renault Clio, it's like something's missing.

The above is exactly like mine. Generally, I don't tend to rev em up much, since most of the time I drive inside the city and the consuption ups a little in high revs, but sometimes I feel the need to hear him louder, something like, imagine that you have a girlfriend that sings really well. most of the times, you simply talk between each other. But sometimes, you just feel the need to hear her sing, because you know she sings so greatly. It's something like that. XD
On a highway, most of the times, I completely shut off the stereo just to drive while listening to the engine roaring. =P
Yes, at a higher speed, that's definitelly the best way to hear it out and feel it.

Mine, in terms of handling, tends to drift and slide a lot specially in roundabouts. If I enter in one at about 40 Km/h or above, and have to take the 3rd exit, the car will start to slide almost automatically. The rear will go completely out. This can be a tricky and slightly dangerous thing specially in those that have the tarmac very polished, and specially if you have any car on your side, but most of the times, if you're alone in the roundabout, it will slide, but you will be able to control it in perfection, and enjoy the slide.
I must admit that, at least two times, I ended up having the car almost spin out and one of the times it literally climbed the roundabout, just the driver's side wheel, nothing serious, but of course, those 2 times happened in one of those "too much polished" ones. So I simply have to be carefull when entering a roundabout, specially If I never did that specific one.
Else, in cornering and similar, no problem whatsoever. =)

Well, for those that enjoy the car and tend to drive more time inside the city, I think the 1.6 is a good choice, since, like you said, it has a lower consuption, and that these days is something crucial.

You sure your's a FWDer? Mine would never slide or drift like that :(

Pretty shure. Once I went to a beach, part of the road was loose sand, almost got stuck there. XD
Maybe it's the tires (they do need to be replaced). The back shocks are new, around 1 year old... How much can the front shocks affect that?

My celica tends to oversteer a little too...or it slides the 4 wheels but in general its very easy too control at certain speeds. I did a track day last year, and it oversteered too much for my taste, and make me spun out for two or three times...so the next time I alligned the wheels I changed the rear camber to -1,5 degrees and is a lot better now at least on mountain roads...I need to take it to the track again! All 4 schock's are new with lowering springs!

Talking about the engine...lets see...for a lot of people the little 4A-GE 16v as the best induction sound in the world (talking about 4 cyl engines of course) and I think I agree with that...unfortunately since I changed the exhaust headers I can only hear exhaust sound...which is beautiful too :D

In general the engine as good performance and good fuel consumption...what could be better in my opinion is the gearbox...to damn long for so little horse power :roll

Hmm... I already thought to do a track day too. Maybe someday XD
Ah! Talking about moutain roads, the best I already did with it was going to the Serra of Arrábida in Setúbal, the road that goes to the Figueirinha beach, that road has some good sharp curves. He was great to control, and most of the times you could hear a lot of the screech of the tires, but the car itself never "tried" to spin nor anything. Of course, at a controllable speed.

In my case, I don't hear very much of the exaust, mostly you hear the motor. But I'm not shure if the exaust is factory or not... Anyway, right, now, it's not in my plans to change it.

The gearbox.. Latelly, mine tends to sometimes "get stuck" from 2nd to 3rd, I guess it's a little loose, but aside that, I guess I agree with you. But can't that be tweaked a little?

I recommend everyone to try at least once to drive his own car in a track, you push yourself and the car to other limits therefore the next time you drive your car faster on the road you know a few more things!

Serra da Arrabida is awesome,I have lots of friends that go there...one day when I'll go there!
Around here in the north we have lots of mountain roads, but the most difficult and challenging road I've drove was Serra da Penha!

Yes it can be tweaked, but you have to open it,or I believe the best thing to do is find a 6speed gear box from a G6R Corolla (AE10X)!

Just read through your post! I'm from the Netherlands and have the same engine in my AT160. Only mine is a pre-facelift and in super red. The wheels on your car were also an option here and I think they are Exip wheels which also came on the Starlet EP70 series :D

Pictures of my car are somewhere on here to...
