Okay heres my 300 dollar 1987 Celica GT...nothing fancy...But the more pics of these I see the more I love what rare a car I have...and fun to drive to...I just wish it was a manual...How hard would a 5spd swap be??? The frst day i got it and brought it home.
Cool, judging by the lights you're in USA somewhere? Not hard - all you need.... It's been done plenty Actually I prefer the auto for a daily, easier to drive, lighter on fuel etc If you want to go hard, rather save for a later gen motor and box, the FE doesn't swing that way
are these aftermartket.. or did these adjustables come with the car? And yes Stig, I live in San Diego California.
Looks like a poor attempt using the stock damper/mount and a tiny spring Mine look like- Those look hard as phuk and you'll have to cut the perch off to run bigger rims/tyres Did they do the back as well?
Hey Stig, its the same setup on all for corners. And thanks for the heads up on that perch problem. I'll be replacing. Those shocks soon as I don't think there any good. And those springs definitely. Let you feel everything on the road. D So after taking it in to a friends shop last night I found that, my oil leak is coming from a bad head gasket. And that the right rear break cylinder is leaking ever so slightly. And the guy before me took the catylact converter off replacing it with one short and one long cherry bomb. Which explains why it wouldn't pass smog. I'll post pics when I get on my computer.
Not a bad pickup for 300. Too bad your in Cali and have to deal with all their emissions crap. Welcome to the site. Theres tons of knowledge here to get your GT up and running.
OK So I got bored..Really bored, This is what I have been up to...not a whole lot but its something.. Alittle flat black paint...gotta love the rattlecan... Then I started taking out the back seats and carpet....The guy before me tripped the window circuit breaker so the windows stayed down, even through rain so theres mold in the carpet....luckily no rust... My dog decided to help out aswell...
Okay so I got alittle more into the motor, i was trying to get to the headgasket or atleast try and tighten the bolts alittle and see if that would help my leak, but once I pulled off the valve cover I realized I didnt have the right tools to do so. Well this is what I found under the cover the bottom half of this was just as bad, since I didnt have the tools to take off anything else further i cleaned it the best I could as it was pretty bad, large chunks of gunk. I dremeled most of the stuff off the valvecover and this was the end result, not as good as I wanted as I was running out of the wire brush tips for My dremel. then on to the paint....Its not the best paint job I agree but its what I could do with what I had laying around...
Unfortunately most of these cars have been owned by people who are allergic to oil changes. If you're able to, it may be worth pulling your sump and seeing if the same black chunky stuff that was inside the valve cover is also clogging the oil pickup. If the head gasket has blown through between two cylinders I doubt tightening it will help much. Eportuning sell a complete gasket kit including a head gasket for about $50 if you want a cheap option on replacing it. Engine bay came up nice, amazing what a lick of paint will do
Head gasket is most likely rusted anyway Head doesn't look too bad, probably as Matt says and just old dirty oil. In future run some engine flush before you drain the oil - that will help clean the inside for you. Don't run it too long or drive it, the flush can damage your bearings and cams. Gasket cleaner is great at removing carbon once you have the head off, watch out cuz it's also highly acidic. Your oil will probably turn black very quickly (due to all the gunk still inside), so keep changing it till it stays clean and the engine flush doesn't cost much
I thought i got a steal at 500 but yours was better. Im getting a first st162 this weekend from a trade my uncle got. Great looking car there.
Okay, so I got really bored again guys. and Have some spare crap laying around the garage.....I will probably be criticized like hell for this but here it goes anyway.. I Figured it should have given atleast an extra 50hp
thumbs down on the airplane wing. i hope you didn't have to drill into the hatch to put that on because even at 370hp, mafix, the site owner, only uses the oem spoiler. as for things to do when bored: find the bezel that goes on your power locks, change your door courtesy lights to white with leds...lots of tasteful little mods you can't go wrong with the factory one. it compliments the shape of the 4th gen. ps. i love the wheels, but my girlfriend laughs at every car that has red drum brakes.
Actually I was surprised to find that the holes were already drill put by the previous owner so I didn't have to do any drilling. I'll probably take it off soon it was more or less a joke. Theres a couple high school kids that live down the street and have a tricked out civic and I think a gallant but not sure. It has more evolution parts on it than anything. Not to mention all the stickers they look straight outta a fast and ferious movie. . So it was more or less to make fun if then...I thought it was funny..
