When I bought my car, I checked out as much as possible. except for the coolant. Just slipped my mind. I checked it a day after I bought the car, and holy shit the overflow tank was filled with brownish green slime. Like a baby had taken the most massive runny dump in it. So I took the tank out, cleaned it as best as possible, cleaned the hose going into it (the outside, at least), and filled it back up with new fluid. The car never overheated before I did this, hell it barely got to halfway on the temp gauge, and it still doesn't. But I checked the tank again just before I left, and it was fucking brown again. I'm going to flush the coolant system when I get back, but what could be causing this? Like I said, it doesn't seem to affect the engine temp at all, it still runs quite cool. It just looks like shit and can't be good for the internals.
Yeah...the car did sit pretty much untouched for 9 years. I'm also replacing all the hoses when I get back. I was wondering if it would cause damage to the internals of my engine or radiator.
I just had all the gaskets checked when it was in for suspension work. They said everything looked fine. I'll still replace it though.
stfu...jk.... i doubt its the headgasket. I remember him saying the car sat for almost a decade. Just flush the coolant and your good. And to make speed deamon happy, pull your spark plugs and see if theres any coolant on them, post your results.
Heh, you'll have to wait a month for those results, as I'm in GA right now. Definitely replacing the hoses though. They are most certainly bad.
I WOULD LOVE TO DO THIS RIGHT NOW, BUT I AM 8 HOURS AWAY FROM MY CAR!!! lol. caps got stuck, I swear.
heh, I wish. I'd be afraid it would break down halfway here though. edit: Holy shit, I just looked at a picture of the old license plate on my car: the old registration expired the same month and year that I moved to Virginia. Weird. lol, just thought I'd share that.
If there is coolant on my spark plugs...that would definitely explain why my car doesn't want to stay running until it is warmed up, right? Or atleast be part of the problem.
Ahh. Right then. Well, since I just had the headgasket checked and they said it was fine, I must now find a different solution to my stalling problem...
... um how did they check your head gasket... only way to check really is to actually take your head off. Compresion tests will most likly tell you but not always. A good way to check is taking your plugs out.
Not a clue how they checked it, as I had already left when they did. I'll have to ask them next time I call about them replacing the drivers side axle as well, since it makes no since to have a brand new axle on one side and a 21yo one on the other...
my coolant looks like poop too I also need to flush it I'm assuming its brown because it's been sitting for over 4 years, as well...
my coolant was black before I flushed it twice. then the t-stat jammed closed. them my upper rad hose blew. only problems I had with the car til it died
