I have a 3sgte out of a 88 celica all-trac in my 86 celica. my mad or vane air flow is going bad. is it interchangeable with any other maf? or do I have to have the specific celica 3sgte? any years? possibly an mr2 will work? thank you.

i don't think there's such thing as a vane air flow...

there's MAP and AFM: manifold absolute pressure and air flow meter. they are not interchangable, 3s-fe ones are different and too small, but i believe the 3s-ge and 3s-gte interchange. the 2nd gen one might work because it's still an AFM, same as the 1st gen ones, but the 3rd gen switches to a MAP.

Vane air flow is what I was told I had, an old style of a maf or something. And thy tend to have problems. Well thank you, I hope they can interchange because I can't find a new or remanufactured. One for the 3sgte

all 4th gens have AFM and none are interchangeable if I'm not mistaken. Partnumbers are different too.

make sure you also try :

    www.ebay.de (where mine came from)
    www.ebay.nl
    www.ebay.co.uk

Those are not the same search results as ebay.com ;). It's germany, netherlands and the UK and maybe they won't ship overseas but if they ship to me I can ship to you :).

Well thank you. I searched as best as I could in those. But couldn't find anything. Any chance you would know if my boost sensor/ map sensor went bad. Would it cause my car to run like crap? I thought they were only for atmospheric pressure and boost cut? I throwing a code for thy sensor now.

well if the ecu is thinking to get the wrong amount of air, the wrong amount of fuel is put into that mixture...so yes it runs like crap then.

I had it with my 3sge, but that was a leaking tube right AFTER the MAF :) lol, so check your hose, I ducktaped mine as a test and the car ran great again.

Car has been running way lean sense it started. Even threw a lean mixture code. A technician was messing with my maf and he told me it was going out. But than I realized my map is throwing a code to. I just thought the maf was what controlled air fuel mixture. I tried moving things around when it was running with pipes and tubes. Only thing that made a difference was when I pinched off the egress tube that goes to the rear, it almost dies.
