    Hey guys,

I've had it with the sw20 MR2 having these incredible lights : http://www.roguesystems.co.uk/forms/Product.aspx?ID=298

I have a spare set of headlight assembly at home so I'm going to search me some nice cheap lights to go in it and start fumbling around with them.

May take me a while to complete but I want it to be cheap and achievable for everybody ! :)

Yes...i would love these...i would use small fog lights....my only problem is to get them to only rise so far.

I think you could correct the rise by just messing with the adjustments.....maybe. Ive been thinking the same thing, marcs thread is inspiring. only problem with fogs is the beam pattern would be to wide so i'd think youd need to use an HID setup. without having one though im not sure on the size.

-ive been playing around with an acrylic sheet i bought today, its actually very easy to work with. though im not sure on temp rating. but coud be used to make the surround for something. ill find out eventually how it holds up in front of the hella fogs i have.

I have a few ideas going around in my head.. 2 round lights from a car that is not difficult to find so cheap or maybe square setup like honda nsx which have 4x6" where we have 6x7" ... that's a 2" off allready keeping the "original" look.

Making the surrounding is part 2, first I need to find out how to adjust the height of the lights.

    COPIED FROM OZCELICA

    Hey all,

Since I moved on from the Celica I haven't used these forums in about a year but I've had another person ask me about the quad pop-up conversion I did based on Waynos original thread.

Luckily I had some old e-mail so I'll just paste everything in here that I have previously typed. This is far from a step by step guide but it gives you an overall idea on what you need to do and also (most importantly) where to buy the actual projector/hi-beam units.

    ====================================================================

You need to remove the oldheadlight assemblies completely so you've just got the frame.
You need to use an angle grinder to carve out the frames so the new projectors fit.
You need to weld mounting brackets onto the butchered old frames.

Thats basically it for the actual headlights but you need to do the following to get the half height popups:

Remove the pushup rod and cut out a section to shorten it.
Remove the rotating knob thats attached to the motor - Weld the knob part onto a shorter custom mounting piece to shorten the height the popups raise.
Match the pushup rod to the new popup height so they sit at the right height.

Most of this is trial and error so theres a fair bit of time spent getting it right - especially with the rotating knob getting both popups at the same height too.

You'll need a 90mm angle grinder and a welder - I used my gasless MIG.

its a fair bit of work but the result is fantastic if you can get it right.
The 90mm projectors are a very tight fit, you have to offset the mounting and make some cuts on the housings too but they do fit.

I can provide part numbers and a contact to order the Hella headlight low and high beam units and the assosciated mounting hardware.

All the headlight parts come from the UK and cost about $500 AU. Buying them from Australia is about 4x that price.
welder will cost you $300 and $30 for an angle grinder.

I'm afraid too that it will look odd. It's okay with the SW20 and T18, because their lamp covers and the lip thing on the end are in one level, not like on our cars. But who knows, maybe you'll prove me wrong :)

    well...if nobody tries...nobody knows :) lol

I'm no mechanic or whatsoever ... salesman professionally so I know all about the desk, but learning tools... and I think it will turn out cool if I can get it as it is in my head :).

I might buy the cheap ass diamond cut 4x6" just for trying maybe :).

I dont have any idea how to find what lights are used but no popup intrigues me and it must be lighter!!!

  17. LOL, that's a ST162 Corona Coupe front end, Corona Coupes are based on Celica Coupes but have a different bonnet, lights and grille. maybe a different bumper skin. Have a chat to Stig, he knows a lot about them
