Besides the pinch weld where can we jack our cars up from? Im trying to avoid the pinchs because they tend to bend, especially with a bit of rust.

Ive got a 2 ton jack and 4 stands at my disposal

There's a spot in the back, where the rear control arms attach to the frame, that is a jack point. Front, IIRC you can jack it up on the crossmember.

On the rear I know it's ok. Probably ok to do that on the front too.

Well, it attaches to the frame in 2 locations, and it's beefy as hell. If those little rails can hold the car, I should sure as hell hope the crossmember can do it.

Wait, shit, my memory sucks. I've jacked up my car using the crossmember before. My GT, way back when I first got it. Didn't have any trouble.

is it the one that runs wheel to wheel or front to back? (just checkin)

I used the front to back crossmember. It was easier to reach with the jack. Doesn't the front to back crossmember attach to the wheel to wheel crossmember?

either cross member is fine to use as a jacking point

stop worrying so much. You can lift by the tranny support, crossmember, or even the bumper support. I use to hook my engine hoist to the bumper support and just lift by that.

crossmember worked fine, check car page for some pics of one wheel done

The rear the jacking point is right the the middle of the control arm mounting point as shown. Note that the pic is from under the car, looking towards the right rear wheel. The rust free spot in the top corner is where the gas tank would normally be.

In the front anywhere on the crossmembers works. Usually in the center of the front to back one is best for lifting both wheels at once.

ooooo, nice exhaust dman. Out of curiosity, where did you get your piping from? Also, where did u get a flange to bolt the pipes to the headers?

I use the front crossmember (front to back) on both of my Celicas often when I am jacking them up to change the oil. So in essence, this is a bi-monthly thing I have been doing for years. Thus I would say with certainty it is safe.

The exhaust is a 2 1/2", I think the straight sections came from a local exhaust shop. The bends and clamps are just the crappy ones available at the generic auto stores. I have the stock mainfold and y-pipe. If the y-pipe is cut at the right spot it is pretty close to 2 1/2". It was cut ahead of where the cat would normally be, in the area of the cross member (I think the joint is right where the pipe goes over the cross member). I used a long flex pipe to connect the y-pipe to the rest of the exhaust system

With no gas tank there is more room to create an exhaust with only 45 degree bends instead of 90 degrees. Next season I am planning on putting a racing bullet muffler in the exhaust tunnel section. And then a turn down tip right off that straight section. So the exhaust will exit right under the rear passenger seat. That should increase flow, reduce weight, and get that pipe away from my control arms.

Hi everyone, I read about jacking up car by the n/s crossmember, per Toyota instructions. Look and my posts of my n/s crossmember(Suspension forum). This a result of jacking up by that part. Has anyone have that problem. Now the n/s xmember is bent and good luck finding another. Was I doing it wrong? I am trying to fix the one I have at frame shop. Has anyone ever got the crossmember bent and fixed and how was it done. Also, what motor mounts would you recommend. Go with OEM(I don even know if they still offer them) or aftermarket and if so, which one? Any info I'll really appreciate.
