Hey guys I just got this in the mail and installed it last night in my car... feels like it gave me a big HP boost. It only cost me $70.00 or so in the end... Sounds like a Lion purr! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-198 ... enameZWDVW
Well like most things there are advanages and disadvantages. On the good side it can probably flow more air than the stock system and normally the easier/more air you can get to the intake the better. That would pretty much be the basic principle behind a turbo charger. Pack as much air as possible into the intake manifold. On the bad side the stock intake system got its cold air from down under the drivers side headlight whereas your new system is forced to use warm engine air. Cold air can hold more fuel than warm air. Another down side to your setup is that if enough water hits that filter and gets sucked into the intake and into the cylinder the piston will not be able to compress it and you will destroy things like pistons and connecting rods possibly valves crankshaft ..... No matter what if you get to much water into the intake your looking at rebuilding or replacing you engine. In your case the filter is mounted up nice and high and if you have all the plastic inner fender guards and under engine covers you may be safe but the best option is to build a box around the cone filter. You could check out this post for ideas on a box Opinions needed (intake, filter etc. content)
