ok so i checked the timing on my car and it was advanced to 20 degrees btdc, so ive been driving it since ive bought it set at 20 degrees without knowing it, and i always fill up with the highest octane i can get where i am (92 or 93), and my motor is fine, no detonation or anything. i went ahead and set it back to stock(10 degrees) and wow, has no balls at low rpm. so its running fine at 20. i was wondering how far can i advance it before it becomes dangerous? i was going to try 25 but wanted your guyses input before i do that.

    GE/GTE or FE?
I suggest checking cam timing 1st - they may be out & the reason it's got no go,
also the dizzy is connected to the inlet cam
    Are you at altitude?

At sea level my car was running well with the cams advanced 15 deg and the timing 20 deg advanced on 98 ron.
    (it came like that!)

At altitude you can go even more, but I woul'dnt recommend anything like this,
the real chances of detonation & bearing failure just aren't worth it

Try to keep to recommended cam/dizzy settings and your motor will have a long and happy life.
