Hi guys. I've been lurking here for a few months and found this forum to be extremely helpful. I live in Mississippi, and back in April I bought a 1988 JDM Celica convertible.

I've been having some idle issues. With the air con on, it barely runs (drops below 500rpm). My temporary fix is to set idle adjust to 650rpm while air is on. That makes it 1200 with the air off, but better then keeping my foot on the gas on rainy days. There's also an occasional problem when cranking warm, where it will idle somewhere randomly between 500-1500 until it's driven.

From reading, my likely place to start is the ICS since it's a 3S-FE. here's my problem:

it's not an ICS, which should have a connector going in. It looks like a IAC from a GE, but the orientation is wrong. Also, I noticed the throttle body only has one vacuum hose coming out of it, instead of 3.

Anybody have an idea of what throttle body / idle control this is?

Thanks for any insight you can give.

i'll settle for anyone confirming that it doesn't look right for a 3S-FE.

    JDM 3SFE
    Looks normal to me..

    I would check the following

    1st....
    AC signal to ECU
If that is not good the ECU does not know to raise the idle when the AC is on..

    2nd..
If the AC signal to the ECU is good..
I would check the Idle up VSV next since this is the VSV that the ECU commands to allow more air in the engine.

    Interesting...
JDM doesnt have an AFM, coil or EGR guys, one pipe from the T/B is normal

Have you checked all your vaccum lines for leaks? I suggest replacing them all with silicone hose
    Is the intake pipe cracked?

Try adjusting your A/C idle by turning the white adjuster knob (On FE it's at the end of the manifold next to your clutch master cyl

Also next time it messes round when warm I want you to disconnect the cold start injector plug and see if that helps

Also check your plug gaps are 1.1mm, any smaller and it will do weird shit like you describe when hot

Here is how my JDM looked

Yes, GE exhaust is a big improvement over stock, as is the huge Corona diesel radiator

    T/B looks the same?
