how to adjust the idle

My car idles fine when I do not have the A/C on, but when the compressor engages, the car idles at 500 rpm and vibrates pretty strong... how do I adjust the idle when I have the ac on to somewhere around 700 rpm?

There's a screw in the top of the throttle body, turn it in our out until you get the idle speed you want

is this the white plastic flat head screw and spring? I tried to turn that in/out but I noticed no difference.

Nope thats not it. Heres a pic. Its the small hole to the right of the pic. Make sure you turn it very slowly.

i think if the idle is ok when the a/c isn't on you dont want to adjust the idle screw.

-iirc the big white plastic screw on the front of the intake is the a/c idle up adjustment. so when the a/c is ON the engine idles up a bit to account for the extra draw of the compresor. so to keep the engine from bogging. id imagine the rpm setting should be the same with the a/c on or off. maybe a little higher with the a/c on?

-my guess would be if its bogging that much with the a/c on something else is wrong. it shouldnt just come out of adjustment. maybe check the vacume lines to the a/c idle up valve and the valve itself arent plugged up with goo. basically the system is designed to feed a little air into the intake to raise the idle when the a/c is switched on. theres quite a bit more that could be the issue, but thats what i would check first.

if the white plastic is the a/c idle up, then mine may be clogged, or malfunctioning since i tried to turn it both ways but nothing changed in my rpm when the a/c is on... i will check to see if i have any vacuum leaks coming from the a/c idle up... if the vacuum is ok and the a/c idle valve is gone, is there a part for this?

also, where is the VSV located at (any pic reference)? I wanted to see if that part is working cuz it may also be the cause of why my rpm is dropping when the a/c is on... thanks!

Not a problem! No they still dont fit. My dad said he would just make the center bore a little bigger and they should be fine. Im not in too much of a hurry though because they still need tires. :p

iirc the vsv is behind the manifold. on the same little rail as all the tvis stuff. should be able to follow the hoses through the manifold. best way to see it is from under the car.

-dont qoute me on that though, a/c system went away along time ago on mine. lol.

-as for replacement parts...dunno rockauto? kinda doubtfull though. really a junkyard would be best. id be willing to bet a few yotas from the same era even with different motors may use that. say camry?....thats if theres no celicas of course.
