I have noticed multiple references to one gen or another of the 3S-GE engine. I have an '88 GT-S with the 3S-GE engine and am wondering what gen would this be considered.
If everything in your car is original, you have a 1st gen 3sge. Post up a pic of your engine bay so you can be sure.
It's also worth noting that, if everything is original, your engine is the updated 1st gen (some call it a 1st gen series 2). The 86-87 3sge is different form the 88-89 3sge - the difference is mainly electrical - different o2 sensor, etc
so im guessing that i have the gen 1 series 2 3s-ge then, my self, as i am running an 89 sx one questioni have is whats the difference between mine and a gts, is the gts awd?
Re: Not here, as far as I know August '87 onwards we got the updated ones. I've definately had an 88 Celica wreck with the S2 engine. xjay777x - Given your calling it an SX, I'm guessing your in Australia. GTS is basically the American/Canadian name for our SX, the only difference if I recall correctly is they have gay indicators/tail lights and we miss out on their factory interior.
Re: My 88 engine had the o2 on the exhaust after the flexpipe, where my 86 engine has it on the manifold. If that has anything to do with what you're talking about.
