Hi all i have a 92 celica convertible gt model that i know for a fact has at bare minimum a 3sfe waterpump and thermostat housing. i went to buy a thermostat for it and the 5sfe that i thought was in the car was a 54mm where as the one that is in the car is a 48mm(had them look up an 89 3sfe and low and behold there is my t-stat) so i figure at bare minimum i have a waterpump housing from a 3sfe motor its possible i have a complete 3sfe motor but the intake says 2200 and valve cover looks different, maybe i have a 3sfe block with a 5sfe head? any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
these are numbers on the riveted on plate 5th gen JT5ST87K7 N0112196 4TH GEN JT5ST62K6 J7259730 can anyone identify these? ok well i found the block stamp on the side of the engine here it is 5TH GEN 5S--0184775 4TH GEN 3S-0728144 now i know this explains the 3s vs 5s and that it means i have a 5s block but it doesnt explain my t-stat housing because the 3s housing has a sensor in it, the 5s one does not but it does use the smaller t-stat
i don't remember the 3s having a sensor in it. but you deff have a 5s. does it have EGR on it? there are several versions and some have different sensors on them. 90-91 are different than 92-93 IIRC.
so i stopped by the toyota dealer and asked them to look up a 5sfe waterpump housing(turns out it comes with the waterpump) however its been supperceeded to the same pump and housing as a 3sfe, ok cool how about a thermostat for the 5sfe they bring me a 48mm thermostat(odd i thought it would be the 54mm tstat) "ok so this is the thermostat for a 5sfe then right?" yes they say well thats odd as that means that napa and autozone are wrong for the tstats for the 5sfe 92 my 88 3s has the water temp sensor sticking out the tstat tube going to the rad. my 92 5s does not. yes ther is egr on it.
ya i figured it would be the mistake by the idiots at napa but it wasnt its actually what it looks up for both at autozone and napa.... mafix, i know thats the fan sensor its not like it on the 5s though... however my new thoughts are that someone put a pre 92 head on a post 92 block, as that would account for my over heating problem i have.
