Well this morning I got in my car(89 Celica GT) and started it up, it started fine, no indicators that anything was wrong......
THENNNN I put it in reverse to back out of the garage and the car just died :/. I was like okay maybe I didn't let it warm-up enough, so I try to restart it and there is nothing. NO reaction when I turned my key in the ignition. Doesn't even act like it wants to start at all!!

Can someone help me out here? I really don't know what all I should check for this problem. Thanks for the help in advance!!

So starter does not engage when you turn key?

Check the battery terminals for corrosion, clean any off then make sure to reconnect them nice and tight.

Yeah clean battery terminals reattach tight also try cleaning starter wires wires and reconnect them, I know I've had that issue before..though though in your case starter would not cause car to die but couldn't hurt to clean them.

Well we took off the terminals and checked them. Checked the water in the cells. All wa good. So we re-tightened the terminal back on and got ready to start the car.....

NOW, the first time I put the key in, the light around the ignition and no seatbelt came on. However when I turned the key to try and start it, there was a click but nothing turned over or anything ! :(. The lights also went off that were on when I first put the key in the ignition. So now what's the next step I should do??

Could the timing belt be a factor? Thank guys

Well guys.....I'm at a loss on what else it could be. Your help would be much appreciated. If I have to en up taking it to a shop where it cost a shit ton of money, I'll probly just sell the car like it is or part it out.....cuz I was trying to sell this car when it happened so I can get another car for college. I want to keep but I need a newer car for college. But I want to also get tho car running good first

It could just be toast .........try jump starting it with another car or put one from another car in if it starts right up then you know you need a battery

also check your alternator... use a known good battery, if it starts with it but then die again then that means the alternator is not giving any charge and the car was running purely on battery... on the other hand, be weary that this may discharge the good battery... to be on the safe side, have your battery and alternator checked by your local parts store... should be free...

Well guys.....I bought a new battery and installed it butttt.......when I put the part back on battery post(negative side), it shot sparks in the air and started a small fire on the positive post. I gotta it out within a couple seconds and left it alone for awhile. After it cooled down, I took a look at the things you put on battery posts(not sure what they are called) and it broke into two pieces so there was very poor connection from where the parts were barely touching when I connected them.

Im fairly sure they were broken b4 the sparks and fire so imma take it to O'Reillys tomorrow and get that part replaced and see if that was the problem.

Now hopefully my new battery isn't fried....:/. Ill let yall know tomorrow...

Those parts that connect to the battery posts are the battery terminals, and I bet they were badly corroded and that's what was causing all your problems. It's a quick, easy, and cheap fix, and your new battery should be fine. Now, no more talk of parting the car out :p

I think I answered this on another thread days ago and told you to check/clean the terminals.
At least now maybe you believe me?
