    Hey Guys

I'm planning a to fit a new stereo and generally have a good sort out of the interior while I'm at it.
So I was wondering what type of bulbs are needed for the heater controls (manual type) as mine haven't worked for a long time now.

Also, are there any guides on how the remove the actual panel behind the slider controls? I'm assuming its somehow glued in place.... ?

    Thanks in advance :study

Thanks! Do you know what type of LED (model number or something)? Reason i ask is I'm not in the same country as my car so am buying bits ahead of time :) Otherwise I'd just take it all apart and look for myself :)

I wanted to replace the bulb(s?) there last year, but at first sight it looked quite difficult to access it. If you succeed, do you mind sharing the way and some photos of the process?

not sure what the manual controls look like.... the auto lights are LED's to start. to change the color you have to remove and re-solder. its a PITA! and its easy to burn the board and screw up the controls. changed mine to red....took me 2 control setups to get it right.

Here are the heater controls in mine. So the only LED's it has in the panel are for AC etc. Its the bulb that goes behind the display that lights up the cold/hot and fan speeds etc thats gone...

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Well, I gave it a go and this is how it went.

Removed the centre console and removed the radio (so you can get you hand up behind the heater controls).

Originally, I thought the bulb was accessed from behind the heater control display so I took off the slider switches etc and popped off the display. Its not glued on but its held on with plastic tabs.

(above) This revealed the perspex which the light from the bulb travels along but you cant reach it from the front...although you can see it so it gives you a clue as to were to start searching behind there...

So reach up behind the panel and you'll feel the wire going to the bulb holder. Twist the holder and give it a pull to remove. The wires are short so you have to poke it through the gap where the air con button was.

Remove the bulb from the holder..

The bulb has a green cover to make it glow that colour so you'll need to swap that over to the new one.

    Put the new one in

Refitting the bulb behind the panel was pretty awkward :banghead as there are so many bits behind there thats in the way. I found it best to use long nosed pliers to roughly get the bulb in the right place and then give it a push with fingers to secure it.

Finally put it all back together.

Quite a straight forward job but frustrating at times.

did you use an LED? or the same type bulb again

Same type bulb again. I guess if you want it brighter you could leave the coloured film off it without using an LED...but I kinda like the original green glow as it matches my stereo :)

Thanks for the pics! My center console is not the same but similar. Now I have a clue on how to disassemble it.

Thanks you so much for a great and informative post ! I've gone 18 years without heater control lights but this weekend I'll give it a go to fix.
