I am two months from having my 4th Gen 3SFE converted to a 3SGTE HalfTrack! I am stoked to get her all done!

So in two months you will all see some sweet pics!

and more pics of the girls on your car

  3. NICE!

Are you going to be doing the work yourself?
    Plan on using an LSD?

    I'm confused about half-trac's.
I am under the impression that the FWD GT-S is rated at 135hp in the US, and that "that amount of power is just about all its front transaxle, clutch and half-shafts can handle."
thats why toyota never made a transmission for FWD turbo applications, because it couldn't really handle it.

But haven't people done it successfully many times over? Like Mafix?

I guess my question is, how are people able to do this? How can an ST celica handle boost? Or in my case? A GTS, what steps are taken to ensure reliability? Sorry, don't mean to threadjack

a good comparison would be the mr2 turbo. everything is the same.

  5. I'm having a hard time finding info, and I'm confused.

    mr2 is mid engine rwd.

so you mean the engine set-up is the same somehow?

mr2 is a 2 wheel drive car, like the celica. It can handle the power fine, so its possible for toyotas parts to handle it, if you install that right ones. I think thats what mafix was getting at.

    ^^

mr2 turbo 3sgte , same as celica half trac

just swapd around and in different positions thats why people use the mr2 lsd gear boxes just gotta change around the gear linkages for the shifter.

remove mr2 harness and shift linkage. install celica harness and shift linkage. done! if you have ever looked at a MR2 it's nothing more than a fwd motor in the back.

  9. aaHaaa! Now I understand. sorry for being a little slower then usual, rough week.

so you mean to tell me that I actually DO want a 3sgte from a mr2 for the celi? I always thought this was much harder then the awd 3sgte setup.
    But F yeah, thats awesome.

So, 4th gen kid, what parts are you going to be using? Too excited for words? I know I would be...

    thanks everyone.

I have a crazy plan one day to build a rwd mid engine ST165, using a MR2 for engine and suspension. then go drifiting....

    Good luck with the conversion.

I'd just stick with a GTS and put a second engine in the back

2.0L up front and another 2.0L in the back that way if one engine dies your not stuck

there are 4 generations of the GTE. the 1st gen is the easiest to swap in.

  13. but 2nd gen GTE DOES have 25 more hp...(or the WRC which has 240 with 224 to the wheels...well thats what mine has...heh)
