What type/make of tires do you use for racing/day driving?

    I use 215 50 16" Toyo R888 tyres for Racing.
for Road use I use 205 40 17" Yokohama Parada Spec 2, these are poor in the wet, so I am looking to change to a different tyre for road use / wet track driving.
The R888s being a road slick, are not great with standing water, or in damp conditions, so I need to take wet weather tyres for racing too.

sliding out is a good learning experience it can show you the limits of the car and yourself and then you drive within those limits.

i haven't done any advanced driving courses and i don't think myself a great driver at all but i've done 120000kms in my 162 and loved every second.

I had a bunch of slides when I was younger doing silly things and each time i learned not to do what i did again.
these are in Australia, driving on the left side of the road

once coming round a right u-bend on a freeway exit, down to a s-bend in the wet. I came off the freeway and hit the exit too fast. all was good then came to the s bend, steering full right to mid left to full right again didn't go well. with a red light about 75m ahead and no traffic behind me, i turned full left into the slide and pulled the handbrake, did a 180 and stopped facing the wrong way but well clear of the light ahead.

with bald tyres, wet road, slow right turn at about 30kmh, back wheels started to slide out, turned where i wanted to go and accelerated hard then backed off a little then accelerated again, magically the back gripped and i went where i wanted, nearly slid into a railing, over a freeway. wasn't going fast but it can happen any time.

about a year after i got the car, good tyres, car was well serviced for once, was south for a few day mission to nowhere in particular. it was raining, and we were coming back up a main highway sitting around top speed, came to a shallow right hand bend in the highway, i was in the right lane. it was going round real nice, then i hit a small bump or puddle and the back lost it. I backed off and accelerated slightly, repeatedly, and by magic once again the back re gained traction, while the car had made it into the left lane but still on the right course.

the point of the story is these front drive cars like to slide; learn from what goes wrong; and hope you learn in a cheap car at slow speed.

I remember a day when my dad was driving his 88 GT-S (now mine) when it was raining. He drove into a parking space and pulled the hand brake to straighten it up. Now, it wasn't like those stunt drivers doing those unbelievable parking moves, but it was still cool. Then on the way out, he turned left and was about to lose it, there was a shopping cart in the way and no cars so he just let it go so he could avoid the cart. All this comes from a bunch of experience. He drives spiritly, even for an old man.

its always cool, when u see a drifting grandpa, lol i get too many snails on the road... i would love to see, for once, a grandpa, who isnt afraid to do the speed limit (or over) rather than sticking 30 km/h under. man that annoys me... (idea for new thread!!)
