Ok I was wonderin what years came with the grill that goes all the way across and under the lights, cause I found one at a junkyard here and I like how its looks better than the one thats on mine. I know that I would have to remove the covers that go under the lights, but would it even work on my car???? Thanks in advance.
The post face lift, or series 2 grill, came on cars sold between August 1987 until the end of the production run, around August 1989. You can retrofit them onto a series 1 car provided you get all the brackets that hold them on.
You'll need the grille and the corner lights. Or you can cut your existing lights to fit the grille...but it'll work... My car's an 88 and I have the 86 grille on it....
Headlight mounts for the two grills are entirely different... You'll end up buying 2 headlights, 2 corner lights and a grill to get it all to come together... (headlights dont have to be the same color FYI headlights are a total PITA... plugs don't match and you have to cut/splice the wires with the old connectors... I liked the old look, but everyone has different tastes...
A little bending here and there and the grilles are entirely interchangeable... I got the 86 on my 88 no problem.
Yea.. I had to swap for 86/87 headlights... I say paint them before you install it ends up looking better than dry old gray plastic... any one want a 86-87 celica grill badge/plaque... only has one chip in it and with the hood closed its un noticeable... the one that came with my car had an annoying crack so I went after another one...
