Hey guys, I need your help and guidance again. I'm going to be swapping in a 3S-GTE into my ST162. I know I 'll need a GTE ECU and everything that comes with it. Depending on how expensive the price of the engine will w/the harness [saw a gen 4 & 5 for a real good price]. To my knowledge the best GTE gen is the 2nd. I'm not looking to go above $1800. My max would probably be $2000 but that would be pushing it just for the price of the engine and harness. What I need to know is if an S54 transmission would fit in that thing. Or if there are any other options that can be done, because I'm gonna keep this thing FWD...for now. Just need a car to drive incase the FE breaks down. So what can I do to keep the FWD layout with a 3S-GTE?

Here's a good thread to the 3sgte swap.

Your trans will bolt up to it, but who knows how long it'll last to the hp.

    1800 is a HIGH price (IMO) or a engine/ecu/harness combo. I picked up my engine/harness/ecu/trans for 1700.

From what I saw, you may be better off getting a clip (instead of just the ecu/harness) as some importers don't include the parts you need (ignitor, maf, etc).

Thanks for the link. I forgot about that site. Haven't logged in, in ages. Yeah well I've found some good prices for the 3S-GTE. There is one in Texas for $1k complete with the wiring harness, and it will most likely pass CA smog, since it's in the U.S.

My apologies, but what's a clip?

Half cut/etc. They cut the engine out at the firewall and ship you the front half of the car. This way you're guaranteed (mostly) the miles and all accessories/switches/etc are included.

I paid $900 for my gen4 3sgte, ecu and harness. Another $900 got me a new trans w/LSD

Nice. What company did you get your GTE from? You got a build thread?

Ohh nice thanks man. Quick question, is this a California Celica? You know how the smog laws are crazy here

Well...they did say they were from Canada too. I hear some people may need to drill some holes into some pipes for EGR or emissions wires etc. Hopefully it's just that and nothing else. Oh, almost forgot, some people are trading their jdm heads for usdm to pass smog as well. Let's hope that statement is wrong :eek:hnoes

My FE MOST LIKELY won't pass smog. It's registered and passed now but 2 more years and it will have to go through that smog testing again. Might as well change the engine. Instead of an FE why not have fun for a few more bucks and go GTE.

lol more like a few hundred, probably even thousand more bucks...

try to source out the mr2 transmission like what is in jasmine (4thgenceli's ride). that way you'd have the lsd and it would take the punishment of the gte too. there are some things you'd have to change, but its worth it.

Not all mr2 transmissions have LSD.

Some have it, other's dont. Quasi is pretty good (expensive). I'm running the TRD 1.5way limited slip unit in mine.

Afaik it's only found in the MR2 turbo box and can only be used in the Alltrak box - "E" series
    [IMG]

For "S" series you will need to pay TRD, Cusco, Quaife etc for an LSD

    Some more info:
    - BEAMS MR2 S54 transmission could have the helical LSD (like mine)
    - BEAMS Celica S54 transmission could have either the helical or viscous LSD
