hi im helping sort out a 95 hyundai excel gx auto, runs alright but the cabins too small for me to enjoy driving. nice roomy engine bay for fixins tho. anyhow the last 3 weeks when started it cranks and will start then die unless we give it some throttle and even then will take a few goes. Once the throttle is held it runs alright. It needs a good tune up, previous mechs missed a raggedy p/s belt running on the wrong groove. easy replacement but i wonder what else they skipped. long story but anyone have an idea/experience with xcels? i'm thinking fuel filter and ill see how that goes, but id like to get more ideas before i trek to the shop. thanks.
Re: off topic large help - excel starting diagnosis i'll bet the timing belt jumped. and then blew out the intake gasket. don't fix it if that's the case. just get another motor.
Re: off topic large help - excel starting diagnosis hey, getting it taken to RAC for a re-service and to diagnose this problem, but i want to narrow it down to save her time/money. Mafix scary advice but thank you, ill try a couple things before it gets that far. 86CelicaGTS i haven't checked for vacuum leaks in hoses yet, but i noticed this part making a lot of air noise when i turn it/move it. it bypasses the intake before the t/b and goes to the intake manifold and has a plug running into the loom with other wires. both hoses on it appear secure. any ideas what this is? another problem, maybe a worn alternator, intermittent problem tho. lights were too dim to drive last night and today were brighter after revving, but charging by revving didnt do anything last night... today battery tested around 12v unstarted and ~14.5 running. cheers.
Re: off topic large help - excel starting diagnosis Hey, I'm no expert at all, but the only thing I can think of that tube from the intake to the engine being is for EGR (exhaust gas reduction). From my understanding, it takes exhaust gases leftover from in the engine and runs them back through the intake to try to burn them off. Perhaps if it's leaky, it's lessening the power? Lower RPMs are usually a *lot* more sensitive to power reductions, but it might just be a lowered idle throttle, I'm not sure. Good luck . --Teran
Re: off topic large help - excel starting diagnosis fixed - tightened that part and no more worries. cheers
