i recently got a 2.25" cat-back exhaust fitted, and im wondering if it may be the cause of the loud metallic sounding thud that occurs when i go over large bumps.... its only happened since i got the exhaust, but i have also had the front of the car jacked up and the rear suspension was at strange angles for a week or so, could the gases have leaked out of the shocks during that time due to the suspension being compressed for extended periods of time? and more to the point, would that make a loud noise while going over bumps? or could it be the exhaust hitting the suspension arm? i have lowered king springs and Koni shocks, and now bigger exhaust piping... the suspension doesnt feel any different, so im guessing that its the suspension hitting the exhaust. has this happened to anyone else??? maybe the exhaust fitter, fitted the exhaust too low? there is also a heat shield rattle since i got it back for the exhaust place! i shoulda just done it myself lol
tighten up the heat shield then? the piping for the exhaust goes up and over part of the suspesion stuff, my guess is it's hitting. We had to put a dent into my friends 5g so it didn't bang. Take a look under there and see what part of the new piping has scuffs and scrapes on it.
its pouring rain but when i get the chance ill have to get under there and sort it all out... could i maybe put some sort of rubber pad on the suspension arm so that it dulls the noise?
Rubber and hot exhaust = melting. Depends on whether the exhaust is fully welded vs. held together with clamps. With clamps you just need to twist the pipes around a bit with a couple pipe wrenchs. Not sure about a welded exhaust though, maybe a slight dent may be needed as underscore said. That or some adjusting of the exhaust hangers ie. bend them to change the position of the pipes.
yeah i think i'll have to take it back and get them to adjust it from the hangers. its a fully welded and bent exhaust from the cat back... cheers for the help so far !
